The Lucknow Sparks, Brownies, Girl Guides and Pathfinders got
together to help Legion ion members put in the crosses .in front of
the Lucknow Cenotaph that symbolize the sacrifice many young
Canadian soldiers made during two world wars. Jessyca Scott

Lucknow UCW remember veterans
The afternoon group
of the Lucknow UCW
met recently at Ostbek
Manor for a program
on "Remembrance".
Ruth Pritchard wel-
comed everyone with a
prayer remembering
those who fought and
those who live with war
and the courage needed
for all to be peacemak-
ers today.
Carol Atkinson, guest
singer, performed
`Onward Christian.
Soldiers' with the
members joining in the
chorus. Ruth read a
meditation that noted
for the past 3100 years
of recorded history,
only 286 years have
been free- of war.
• Ruth displayed a cur-
rent stamp booklet fea-
turing . a close-up pho-
tograph of the National
War Memorial in
Ottawa and read
Canada Post's descrip-
tion of the stamp's
design. Winston
Churchill's •,"V for
Victory" is in the back-
ground and vibrant red
poppies are given
prominence thanks to
Lieutenant Colonel
John. McCrae's 1915'
poem "In Flanders
Fields".
Lois Walden read
Scripture from Psalms
85 8 - 13 and Isaiah 2:
1- 4. Ruth read a . recent
newspaper article by
Goderich resident,
Christine Bolus, who,
as a young teenager
was sent from Scotland
to Goderich during
World War II. for safety.
She wrote of her mem-
ories of one English
RAF chap who trained
at Port Albert and who
with his wife and baby
boarded :: at the same
house as her.
Carol sang Will Your
Anchor Hold'. and thea.
group again joined in
the chorus. Nancy
Walden read excerpts
from the 1920 novel.
"Rilla of Ingelside",
Lucy Maud
Montgomery's eighth
and final book in her
Ann of Green Gables
series. Ruth closed the
program with prayer.
Deanna Reavie
opened the business
with a Remembrance
poem. Lois Walden
read the minutes.
Rollcall was a
Remembrance memory
and was answered by
I3 members and five
guests.
Happy birthday was
sungto Lois, the lone
November birthday.
Shirley Bolt gave the
treasurer's report.
Helen Cleland read
the Least Coin newslet-
ter.
Karen Latour read a
humorous poem on
aging and the _meeting
was closed with the
UCW Benediction. Y
