BY GARIT REID
• Sentinel Staff
The Lucknow Lancers
got back into the win col-
umn with a 7 - 4 win over
the Palmerston 81's on
Friday night at the
Lucknow and District
Sports Complex.
The WOAA Senior A
tilt started off slow for
the. Lancers as the first
period was a little shaky,
but the . team picked up
their play and proved
they were the superior
team that night.
Palmerston started off
the . scoring in the first
period with a quick goal
as they caught the
Lancers flat footed in the.
first few minutes, but
• through grit and determi-
nation the Lancers were.
able to tie things up 2 - 2
going into the second.
period,
The second period l is
when Lucknow took over
and all of the momentum
was in their favour. They
struck quid, with a goal
to make it 3 - 2 and the
Lancers never relin-
quished the lead after
that. •
One of the key areas
where the Lancers picked
up their game from the
previous game, • where
they allowed three short-
handed goals, was their
power play. It kept them
on top of the 81's when
they had the man advan-
tageand their lone power
play tally of the game in
the second was essential-
ly the nail in the coffin
for the . 81's.
"The . po•wer play was
definitely a lot better this
game and so was our
penalty kill," said : assis-
tant coach Steve Murley.
"We have to be better in
our own, like we were
tonight, or it will just kill
our chances in games."
The Lancers scored two
more goals in the third
period and the 81's scored.
one of their own, but }the
damage was done and the
period was just a formali-
ty as the Lancers claimed
victory.
Scoring in the game for
the Lancers were Rick
Andrew withtwo goals
and an assist; Ean Moffat
with a goal and an assist;
Ryan Murley, Tyler
Devos, Brad Burton and
Adam MacDonald had. a
goal each.
Other assists came
from Mark Stanley with
three. Blake Alton, Jonny
MacKinnon, Luke
Drennan and Craig
Moffat had an assist each.
The Lancers will look
to tie thea season series up
against their rival the
Ripley .Wolves next week
in Ripley. They willlook
to avenge a 9-4loss in
their first meeting this
season. .
"Consistency is the
biggest thing we need to
see in the team," said
Murley. "The :guys just
have to be hard on the
puck at all timesand play
well in their own end.
They just have to come
out a lot stronger than
they did last game against
Ripley and we should
have a better result."
The Lancers play. in
Ripley against the
Wolves on Friday, Nov.
13 at 830 p.m. and then
they are back at home to
face the Shelburne
Muskies at 8 p.m. on
Saturday, Nov. 14.
