Eric Cowan originally from Lucknow enrolled in the Canadian Forces on Sept. 6, 1989, as an- Ordinary Seaman. Cowan Completed his 21 week basic training at Canadian Force Base (CFB) Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. After completing another six months of QL3 ` basic cooking course in Borden in January 1990. He was posted back to CFB Cornwallis where he worked for three months feed- Mg over 3,000 sea cadets aild basic military. recruits. In October of 1990, Cowan was transferred to CFB Winnipeg. there he gained expe- rience in . all three of their kitchens and* was sent : out on numerous cooking tasks. One of those tasks was the militaries Eagle River; Labrador where he would be flown by chopper with all of his food and belong- ings and cook s for numerous high ranking officers and; diplo- mats from around the worlds Occasionally, Cowan as bale to take in . some of the m eastern Canada. • : : i . In 1993, Cowan ' was deployed to the :Golan Heights, Israel where he cooked forthe. Canadian contingent of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force. During his six month deployment he work along 'side other UN members from Japan, Poland and Austria. In May of 1994, Cowan was posted to the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (2 PPCLI) at the old south side of the Kapyong Barracks at the CFB Shilo in the heart of Western Manitoba. During his time with the 2 PPCLI, Cowan would - be labeled as the"dry .dock sailor" by the then King's Own (KO) Donny Mazzarole. 1996 would see Cowan posted to back to CFB Borden. In May 1999, Cowan was posted back with 2 PPCLI, where .soon after •that he was deployed for six months to Visoko, Bosnia and Herzgovina as part of the Canadian Infantry Battle Group. Feb. 14, 200 would see Cowan posted back to CF3 Winnipeg (17 Wing). This move would also see the dock sailor" change from Navy black to the Air Force navy blue. Cowan would also receive his promotion to Mcpl upon his arrival to 17 wing. • Things didn't slow down in 2003 -2004 as Cowan would spend a six month deployment at Camp Mirage, in the heat and sun of south West Asia. 2007 would see Cowan tasked to Cold Lake for Operation with then Corporal. Ices � ' ntley and Corporal Matt hetddy. When rowan completes his service with the military, Cowan looks to pursue a cooks position. with the Selkirk Mental Health Center becoming a cleaner/cus- tochan at his wife's (Daryl Cowan) school in Winnipeg. He is alsoconsidering work- ing as a civilian at 17 Wmg, but is looking at many possibilities. CoWvan's family currentlylive in Marquette, Manitoba.
