Better to be safe than sorry
My Thanksgiving was low key
and relaxing during each day of my
weekend. It gave me the chance to
catch up on reading and spend time
with my family in Owen Sound.
However, my nights were a little
more adventurous as I hung out
with friends that I had not seen
in quite some time. I guess
where this is leading is that I
had a few beverages, just
enough that a taxi was the
smart choice forme.
On the Friday and
Saturday night of the long
weekend, the taxi 1, was in
was ride checked by the
police both times. It was the
long weekend and.ride checks are
always stepped. up to curb'drinking
and driving, but : I'm glad the police
were out there doing their job.
One of the police officers on the
Friday night even congratulated me
for doing the right thing. In Owen
Sound the taxis are a flat rate of usu-
ally $5 to $8 dollars, so. being
responsible doesn't break the bank
either.
Now that ..02 per cent blood alco-
hol limit is the law for any driver,
it's just foolish to be driving with
even a few drinks in your system.
Losing your licence over a couple
drinks is not worth it, in my books.
In my opinion there will soon be a
zeroblood alcohol level for all driv-
ers in Ontario and hopefully
Canada. Drinking and driving
doesn't mix at any level and
will save :a lot more lives and it
makes people feel that.. much
safer on the roads.
Contending with mother
nature is stressful enough
for many motorists..
In, Lucknow, taking a cab
is' not an option since there
are no taxi cab service in the
village. In that case people should
think twice before drinking and then
getting on . the road ` with tieir. vehi-
cles. It's always a good move to
have a designated driver around if
the need to drivesomewhere conies
up. People should also plan where
they drink. If you. are going some-
where where you . know you'll be
drinking, make plans to stay the
night.
It's always better to be safe than
sorry.
