MLB baseball at playoff time is great
What else can I write about this
week, but baseball. It's the playoffs!
I pretty much have my schedule
planned around when I can watch
the Boston Red Sox try to win their
third World Series title of the
decade..
Playoff baseball is just so
exciting because every run
counts. With playoff rosters
set and pitching rotations
locked in, every playoff team has
to make every hit count because they
are facing the best pitchers in the world.
What I'm hoping is Boston will be
putting two aces out on the mound
for back-to-back games in Jon
Lester and Josh Beckett. Beckett
has proven he has what it takes to
be a big time, clutch pitcher in the
playoffs with World Series wins
with Florida and Boston. It
will be up to Lester to prove
he is the best pitcher the Red
Sox have.
It was tough to watch
Boston lose in seven games to
Tampa Bay last year, so this year I'm
hoping great pitching and Clutch hitting
will take them to the top.
Lobb. doesn't support Private Members' Bill
Dear Editor,
-On June 18, Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla
(Brampton --Springdale) introduced
Bill C-428, a PrivateMembers' Bill to
amend the Old Age Security Acta If this
bill became, :,law it would essentially
reduce the residency requirement for
entitlement to a monthly pension from
ten years to three.
Currently, in order to qualify for
OAS, there is a 10 year residency
requirement after the age of 18._ If this is
met, eligible Canadians can start receiv-
ing benefits at age 65. The 10 -year
requirement period strikes an appropri-
ate balance between an individual's con-
tribution to Canadian society and the
economy and his or her access to a life-
long, publicly funded benefit:.
At a cost of over 4700 million, this
proposal is costly and irresponsible and
would be paid for by Canadian taxpay-
ers.is
It reasonable to expect that a person
should be required to live in Canada for
a minimum period of time before being
granted the right to a lifelong public ben-
efit. Our Conservative government is
taking a fair and responsible approach to
providing benefits to seniors.
As your Member of Parliament, I can
assure you that I will not vote in favour
of this Bill.

"Identity theft" is the issue on the table
Dear Editor,
I'm writing because it seems someone
has stolen our local Member of
Parliament's Identity. Just recently I
received a mail out supposedly from,
"him" talking about "Identity Theft".
But I know this can't be from him.
Before the 2008 election the conserva-
tives blanketed this riding with over 15
single page mail outs that were simply
political pre-election propaganda paid
for with taxpayers money. During the
election he said he would never do such
a thing. That he thought this type of mail
out should be banned. He didn't say this
only once - he said it every time the issue
was raised at all candidates meetings.
What worries me is that since he dis-
appeared to Ottawa less than a year ago
I have received at least eight of these
mailings in my mailbox. They follow
the same format. A big headline about
what the government is supposedly
doing and then a mail back portion on
which to check which party leader is
doing the best job. The problem with
them is that they are simply
Conservative political propaganda and
supporter identification. They don't pro-
vide local citizens with any useful infor-
mation. Just a headline and paragraph or
two praising the government. They then.
try to identify party leader support. This
may be very useful to the Conservative
Party when they go looking for money
and workers in the next election but is
hardly a non-partisan activity that should
be funded by the taxpayers.
Since he said he wouldn't do it, do you
think we should ask the RCMP to inves-
tigate and see which back room conser-
vative party hacks have stolen our MP's
Identity?
