The Club had 19 members this year, with a range of beef breeding heifer, market heifers and steers. Breeds included Charlosis, Angus/Angus Cross, Limousine/Limousine Cross, etc. The meetings this year, ranged from the list organiza- tional meeting' in April, to vari- ous guest speakers, judging competition, a trip to Gencor anti Elora Research Farm. The guest speakers this year included veterinarian, Katherine Found, a recent grad- uate from the University of Guelph who spoke on herd health, artificial insemination and management to improve fertility and vaccines. Kevin Green, from Green's Meat Market,' provided an informa- tive talk about details of various cuts of meat- and which part of the animal they come from, marbling and grading of beef, as well as the difference between live and dressed weights. At this meeting we had an opportunity to cook. and sample different cuts of {meat,' along with different spices, rubs and barbecue sauces. We are very thankful to Russ and Mary Mackie for again hosting the 4-H breakfast in June; this is a significant fundraiser for our club. A further meeting is what the club called "Funday", which is really quite a lot of work; the members are asked to bring out their 4-11 project; the calves are weighed and the leaders pro- vide tips for showmanship. Brad Gilchrist provided a clip- ping demonstration. The guests for the meeting were Margaret Vincent and Jeremy Kreskie — they shared information and showing tips about their 4-H projects, a sheep and a dairy calf. On -Aug. 28, the club had an opportunity to see first -hand, as well as. watch videos, on, the operations of Gencor, who are known internationally for artifi- cial insemination. After Gencor, we toured the Beef Barn, grazing and the field and weed crops at the Elora Research Station, which is part of the University of Guelph. Somemembers are not yet finished for the year, as they may sell their market animal at the Brussels Show and Sale on Thanksgiving Saturday or they take their 4-H Project (animal) to the Royal -Agricultural Exhibition, : in Toronto in November The club would like to thank the leaders this year, for their Y time and commitment: Brent Black, Sue Marriott, Brad Gilchrist and Rosie Foran.
