HuronTel bringing fibre optics

fibre optic lines
into the streets of
Lucknow, so that
the residents of the
village have the
option of . installing
the lines totheir
homes as part of
their Fibre to the
Home project.
For people
unaware of what
fibre optics are,
they are long, thin
strands of very
pure glass about.
the diameter of a
human hair. They
are arranged in
bundles called
fibre. optic cables
• and use light
instead of electrici-
ty to carry a signal.
The light signals
represent data,
which is capable of
traveling at the
speed of light.
The website for
HuronTel explains
how fibre optics
work: Fibre optics
are like a very long
flexible plastic
pipe several miles
long, with the
inside surface of
the pipe coated
with a perfect mir-
ror. Several miles
away at the other
end, a friend turns

municate with you
through the pipe.

cable.
The program
involves the instal-
lation of fibre optic.
cabling to your
home or business.
This fibre optic
cable will facilitate
a plethora of new
services delivered
directly to your
door. These servic-
es include: 100 t per
cent digital HD tel-
evisionincluding
personal video
recording and time
shifting, high
speed Internet and
a land line phone
HuronTel notifying people of the work they are doing
with battery back-
up during power
outage.
Fibre technology
can carry massive
amounts of infor-
mation, called
bandwidth, over
long distances
without :- degrada-
tion. ; Copper can
also carry high
bandwidth, , but
only for a`few hun-
dred yards; after
which the signal:
begins to degrade
andlbandwidth nar-
rows. Connecting
homes directly to
fiber optic cables
instead. of copper
and coaxial cables
enables homes and
businesses to
receive a wider
range of products
and services.
