Shirley MacDonald read the Scripture. The group discussed the upcoming Ripley Fall Fair as well as the area convention to be held in October in Keady. Fran Farrell introduced the guest speaker, Roger Thomson. Put* Gro� MI The w•aes's Institute Roger spoke on his trip to Tanzania where he helped the people build schools and started them raising Rhode Island hens. In the area, you are considered rich if you have cows and a few hens. The people in the area sell hayand grow rice, fruit trees and lots of banana trees. The teachers get a small salary and, if lucky, a hut to live in. It costs $140 to send a boy to high school and most cannot afford this amount. Water is scarce. The farmers take their cows to a reservoir to drink. The ladies enjoyed Roger's talk and found it very educational. The meeting ended with lunch being served by BettyNeedham and Mary Anne Kukoly. Sixty senior men enjoyed 18 ,holes of golf fol- lowed by a delicious steak supper. Low gross and B flight: winner was Paul Heibrand `from West Lorne with a score of 72, A flight Dan Campbell of Wingham, and C flight Don Bone from BlackHorse. Low net winners were Bill Kerr .with a 64, Briant Skhm and Bob Gavreluk. all who belong to the Wingham Golf and Curling Club. Second low gross winners were Deny Durst from Sunset, Wayne Pearen from Kitchener and Don Rae of Wingham. Second low net were Jim Ross, Roger Magas from Listowel and Ted 'Makowski from BlackHorse. Donna Anderson, John's daughter, joined the golfers for supper and pre- sented the trophy to the champions. Thursday night men's had 37 golfers this past week. Saturday, Sept. 12, the Wingharn Golf and Curling Club held the Brett Cameron iviemorial tournament. Fifty- two friends and fam- ily got together and shared some stories, enjoyed the golf and barbecue steak and chicken super. Taus is a very emotional day for many and Brett is truly missed by the entire com- munity. munity.
