The meeting began with President Reba Jefferson leading the pledge. Reba then led meeting five's rollcall which asked what a variety of sewing tools looked like. Members learned what pinking shears, a seam roll, a seam ripper and more looked like, unless they already knew. . Reba also led meeting six's rollcall which had members dis- cuss things possible to sew, and who they knew that sewed a lot and what. Members said that sheets, pillow . cases, curtains, binders and more could be sewn, in addition to clothes. Members knew a variety of peo- ple who sew a lot, and they .sewed a variety of things. Cathy Drennan, leader, showed members a variety of seam finishes, darts, gathering and other sewing tips. Cathy then gave information on the Lucknow Fall Fair. The club was r divided into their secretary groups to learn about a specific topic. Groups then presented information on fabric, properties of cotton, pressing and seam finishes. Tina Drennan, junior leader, then led a competition on all things sewing: The groups were quizzed on I all the things they had learned. The girls opened the tournament Friday with a frustrating 2 - 1 loss to the Durham Lightning, which sdw the Saugeen Maitland girls new linemates dominate play _ only to fall behind late in the third and never recover. Ona Mezenberg (Owen Sound) managed the only tally in that game. Game ` two against Ohio State was decidedly different ,with the close going in to the final ques- tion, which asked members why you must trim and grade seams. All groups.. knew that if you did- n't trim and grade seams it would be too bulky and there would be a line where the seams met. After the quiz was . over, members were given a paper copy to write down all the answers they had just reviewed. Cathy then demonstrated how to sew on a button. Reba closed the meeting with the motto and members enjoyed a snack provided by Eileen George, a leader. The achievement program will be held on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Wal -mart in Goderich. The girls started strong, outscoring the Ontario Hockey Academy 3 - 1 - on Saturday morning for their second win of the weekend with Emily Kelly playing great hi net. Mezenberg and Ceaser scored again as Marcie Landman (Drayton) net- ted the third marker. Last Saturday afternoon in Lower Lakes Female Hockey League action, the Saugeen Maitland : Lightning Midgets ets:: came awaywith a 2 - 2 tie tie against the Guelph Thunder in exhibition play. Lucknow girls scored both - Lightning goals with the first being a strong point shot from defenceman Gina Murray, assisted by Ona Mezenberg and Dolle Meigs (both from Owen Sound) finding it's way through the chaos . in front of the net. The: second, goal was a bullet from forward Diane Bushell assisted by Kelly Garrow (Port Elgin). Emily Kelly (Port Elgin). and Sarah McGall (Owen Sound) split the game in net. This marks the end of pre -season play for the Lightning who are anxiously . awaiting the start of their regular season. Twelve churches and one former municipal building will open their doors to the public for tours this Sunday.
