Elliott will be off to Regina, Saskatchewan on Oct. 18 after com- pleting an exten- sive application. He isn't exactly sure which month he'll be _ going because the RCMP usually wait a few weeks before informing their cadets when they will be leaving for training in Regina. In Elliott's final year of police foundations at Fanshawe College in London, RCMP recruiters came to his school to offer applications for their training -pro- gram. Elliott has always wanted to become a police officer and jumped at the opportunity to become a RCMP officer. "Since 1 was in kindergarten I have always want- ed to : be a police officer, said Elliott. "This was the per- fect chance when they casae to my school." Elliott complet- ed the written por- tion of the test at the school and- passed, but that was just the start of the long applica- tion process. The RCMP recruiters came to Lucknow and did a series of inter- views with Elliots five friend refer- ences. he had to have, then his friend's references were checked. Former teachers, past and current employers, neigh- bours and family were all ques- tioned to make sure Elliott passed the RCMP's appli- cation process. On top of all of the questioning, Elliot himself was put through a three hour interview, which included a polygraph test. Elliott also went through a physical, eye tests, phyco logical testing, dental record check, and. a crimi- nal background check. For Elliott the polygraph was a little nerve rack- ing, but said it was necessary in order to make sure all the requirements are there to become a -) RCMP officer. When Elliott arrives in Regina he will go through a six month train- ing program that will make him ready to be sta- tioned as a RCMP officer. He doesn't know a lot of the details due to the secrecy of the RCMP, but one thing is for sure he's excited to be going and becom- ing a police officer. "It's going to be an awesome expe- rience and a new chapter in my life," said Elliott. "I can't wait." One thing Elliott was privy to is that he won't be sta- tioned in Ontario or Quebec due to the fact they have provincial police services. Elliott is hoping he'll be sta- tioned out east somewhere. However it's not a primary concern for him just as long as he gets to bea police officer. Have. a "Beary Berry.
