The river is • crossed by bridges on River Mill Road, Cransford Line, Lanesville Line and Division Line, and none of the bridges are in great shape, according to B.M. Ross & Associates representative Ken Logtenberg. "They're all sin- gle lane bridges," Logtenberg said, adding, in his presentation, three of them have no winter mainte- nance. The evaluation of the bridges was brought on by an inspection of the bridge on Cransford Line, several conces- sions East of Highway 21. "I was able to brush away con- crete with my hand," Logtenberg Photo by Deny Scott They bridge on Cranford Line may be getting a facelift in the near future, or maybe shut down, depending on a pending choice ofAC111/. explained. His suggestion-. to council was to have one of the bridges repaired and upgraded to a two lane road, and suggested Division Line, due to the fact it is already semi- paved. "Upgrade ani repair one bridge, then shut down the others as they become too expensive to con- tinue to keep open," he said. Logtenberg also suggested Cransford Line could be com- pletely moved, to make for better lines of sight and a Soap Dox Drbye at Lucknow Fall Fair: Sunday, Sept. 20 Noon registration Races start at i p.m. • Two Age Glasses 8 -12 8113 -16 • No entry fee • Prizes: 1st $50, 2nd $25 • Two classes: Stock Cars (no bearings in the wheels) Super stock cars (with bearings in the wheels) • Safety Rules: Must wear CSA approved helmet Must have working brake Participant must be enclosed (no open sided cars) • General Rules: Parent/Guardian signs waiver form Wheels must be 12 inches or less Maximum length of car 5 feet Car must have a working brake Race$ are against the clock Contact: Cliff Mann for more Info 528-3500 (home) 528-3913 (work) better drive, which would also allow the bridge to be built at a more accommodating area. Council has decided to have an environmental assessment done to have the project ready if any funds are made available through grants. Storm -water drainage Ashfield-- Colbo.rne- Wawa=nosh Township Council is pushing forward with plans to improve storm water drainage on the London Road corridor in Port Albert. In their Sept. 1 meeting, council was addressed by Dale Erb, a repre- sentative from B.M. Ross & Associates, who debriefed council on the possible options of repair. Erb explained council is really looking at two dif- ferent options; a semi -urban repair model and an urban one: The urban repair model is the most appealing for an urban area, as it employs curbs and gradients to remove water which has been causing problems in the corridor. The semi -urban option calls for a raised road with ditches that would be shallower than the ones originally installed in the corridor. Cost wise, Erb explained, there is very little differ- ence between the two options. The installation of a storm sewer is a constant cost, regardless of the road work chosen. For the area coun- cil is considering, B.M.: Ross & Associates has estimated the work would cost $700,000. The road work will cost $1,400,000 for the semi -urban model, or $ 1,550,000 for the urban model. Councillor Carl Slotjes suggested, given the scale of the job, they in commutes should opt for the more expensive option, because, aesthetic value aside,• the ditches that are a part of the semi -urban model may get filled in. "For the cost difference, we should just get [the urban model] done," he said. The final price tag of the project is estimated to be between $2,100,000 and $2,250,000, but the cost to resi- dents of the corri- dor is still under discussion.
