August was busy month for "Port Albert
August has been a busy
month for the folks in Port
Albert. We had a few
weeks of nice weather and
many people took advan-
tage of the beautiful
beaches along our shores.
Unfortunately a person or
persons took it upon them-
selves to remove the life-
saving ring that was
recently purchased to
replace the one that had
been stolen in the spring.
These rings are quite
expensive and it is hard to
fathom why anyone
would, quite possibly, put
someone's life at risk by
removing this very impor-
tant piece of safety equip-
ment.
Despite the weather the
car rally and movie night
went ahead as planned.
Sara and her group did a
wonderful job ; putting
together the car may. -
Congratulations to Wayne
PortAibert
and Jennifer Black and
family who came in with
the most points.
Everyone who took .part
had a great time and all
hope that the event will be
held again next year. Ken
and his group also did a
fabulous job of putting up
a movie screen, the weath-
erman : decided to cooper-
ate, and the evening was
enjoyed by all.
Diane's team provided a
ham supper at Dungannon
on Aug. 9, which was also
well received.
The bar gang helped :out
at Lucknow'S "Music in
the Fields" on Aug. 22.
Lucknow certainly put on
a well organized show and
from all reports was very
successful.
Saturday, Sept. 5 is our
last hurrah for fund-raising

"Sewing Machines" hold rneeting
The "Sewing Machines"
had their first meeting on
Monday, Aug. 24 at the
Jefferson's house. The
leader in charge of this club
is Cathy Drennan. The
members of the club started
off outside playing a fun
game of Knights, Horses,
and Cavaliers.
Next, the members went
inside and were split into
groups of three (after get-
ting to know each other), to
write out the 4-H pledge,
followed by ` leaders
quizzing the groups. Then
there was the election of
officers. For this club, the
president is Reba Jefferson,
the VP, Mary -Kate Higgins,
the secretary is Emma
Enders, press reporter is
Kathleen Stennett, and
cover design is being done
by Ellen Jefferson.
Members voted on the club
name, "Sewing Machines".
After, members
answered roll call: Each
person introduced them-
selves and described what
they liked about their cloth-
ing. The leaders " then
showed the members parts
of the sewing machine.
Then, the members went
back into groups, and
matched up sewing
machine parts with their
definitions.
Next, the club members
were quizzed on how well
they knew the sewing
machine. The members and
leaders then discussed the
measurements of fabric and
themselves. Finally, the
club finished the meeting
with the club motto, and
everyone enjoyed a snack. -
The next meeting will be at
the Auburn hall at 9 a.m. on
Monday, Aug. 31. -
