Knechtel Food Market
ION/IL:TOW Ni GROCER
Lucknow N 519-528-3026
A message to our customers and friends
We would like to express our gratitude to the people of Lucknow and surrounding area who have sup-
ported us through the past 23 years as we have evolved from a Knechtel Associate Store, to a Foodland
Franchise, and now as an independent member of the Hometown Grocers Co-op.
We fully believe this change to an Independent status is correct, not only for ourselves, but also our us-
tomers
and the Lucknow community as a whore. This move, however, is not without considerable chat -
lenges. As a member of the Hometown Grocers Co-op we have had to establish new business relationships
with suppliers, as well as learn how to produce a weekly advertising flyer. Signage, uniforms and many
other things must be changed. Alt ofthese changes taketime and are further complicated by many SAA-
ple being away on summer holidays.
Some mistakes will be madealong the way. We appreciate your patience, hope you have noticed some
gradual improvements over the past few weeks, and ensure there are many more improvements to come
over the next several months and years.:
Gift cards for other grocery stores have recently been distributed in our town and surrounding market area.
We support Free Enterprise and believe everyone should have the ability to make choices as to where they.
shop and who they support. Knechtel F•ood Market continues to support our former Franchisor by buying the
m ori of dusts invefltory'purcMases from theirte'1Nkhotesafe Division.. .
Hometown Grocers are members of Homegrown Ontario which is an alliance'
Meat Processors and various Ontario Marketing Associations. As such, we are committed to supplying meat
products primarily produced in Ontario. We think it only, makes sense, not only for the local economy but
the environment to support products produced close to home. We have already introduced some new prod-
ucts
which you will not be able to find in grocery stores controlled by the large Distributers. These are pro-
duced
by small quality Processors such as West grey Premium Beef of Durham. Many other new products
will be available in the future as we source additional suppliers.
Food Safety continues to be a high priority for us. All of these plants are at least Provincially inspected.
Many studies have shown the Provincial Meat Inspection system to be just as safe as the Federal Inspection
System.
We are. also making an effort to buy as much local produce as possible: This was often very difficult to do
under the Franchise system. Again, quality and food safety arevery important. We are fortunate to have
local suppliers such as Kinloss Produce who are committed .to producing quality products at a reasonable
price and have talon the initiative to complete the Food Safety course through the Health Unit.
Wewould like to acknowledge the other members of the Hometown Grocers - Hinds Foods from Grand
Valley, Drayton Foodmarket, Chesley Grocery Store and the L&M Food Markets in Elora, Arthur, Harriston,
Palmerston and Durham. Alone, we would not. have gained independence. As a group with a common pur-
pose, we are able to draw on the strengths and experience of, each member to achieve our goal.
This change has also been difficult for our staff. We appreciate. their extra efforts and understanding. With
their help we will continue working to implement the necessary changes required. to improve our offering for
yourshopping pleasure, upon our return from a short vacation.
