There will be
some nerves and a
lot of excitement as
last year's Lucknow
Fall Fair
Ambassador
Mackenzie
Carruthers prepares
to compete this
weekend at the
Ambassador of the
Fairs taking place at
the CNE,
From Aug. 21 -
23, Carruthers will
be competing
against more than
70 competitors
where she will be
tested heavily on
her knowledge of
the CNE and agri-
culture as a whole,
while being judged

ty and an overall
lasting impression.
"I'm a combina-
tion of nervous and
excited, but you get
out what you put
into it, and I believe
I'm ready to com-
pete, said
Carruthers. "I'm
representing
Lucknow: and that is
something that mat-
ters to me."
The 21 -year-old
student is entering
her fourth and final
year at the
University of
Toronto for English
and a double minor
in anthropology and
drama.
While the : pres-
sure of a three-day
event can make
anyone a little anx-
ious, Carruthers will
be with the many
contestants she has
met and calls
friends who have all
given each other the
support they need to
compete in the high
pressure competi-
tion.
Carruthers got a
taste of what's to
come as she recent-
ly took part in the
Miss Midwest com-
petition.
"It was pretty dis-
astrous because I
had a few mishaps
with my speech and
the microphone
s d," said
C'ar others. "I leam
from my mistakes
and I was still able
to, place as the the
• third runner-up,
which will motivate
me to do well this
weekend."
Canvthers has
met many h h .great
people and hlearned
an incredible
amount from her
experience over the
past in the various
fairs she has com-
peted in. She will be
sad to see it end
been because it has
a big part of her life
these past couple of
years, but she is
grateful and she
blows she has
become a better per-
son for it.
She has also had a
lot of support from
her parents espe
cially the huge time
and effort her moth-

They spent a lot of
time at the
various events they
attended and
dithers said they

helped her be a
