Ripley -Huron Fire Dept. has been busy in 2009

Ripley -Huron Fire
Dept. Report
From April 4 to July
24 the Ripley -Huron
Fire Dept. has respond-
ed to a total of 33 calls,
which is already an
increase of one over the
number of calls over last
year's, which was 32.
The 33 responses con-
sisted of seven fires with
loss, one without loss,
six public hazard
responses, seven med-
ical responses, 1O.rescue
responses and two other
type responses, which
consisted of things like
assistance to other agen-
cies, cancelled calls, etc.
The members of . the
fire department complet-
ed First aid and CPR
training at the Ripley
Fire Hall on April 18
and19.
The fire department
held its annual breakfast
in conjunction with the
Ripley Brew
Jays/Classics Annual
Mush -Ball tournament
with a turn out •of over
450. people.
Point Clark
Northwest Area
Project
The director of public
works, Hugh Nichol,
said the upgrading of the
water lines in Point
Clark is an essential
component of maintain-
ing the infrastructure.
• TheWilling of the Blue,
Brown and ' Ronald
Streets area ensures that
the majorityof residents
from Abenaki Street,
north to the Pine River
are being served by new
and improved water
lines installed within the
last 10 years.
Tractor Bids
Four bids were
received for the sale of
the 1970s Allis-
Chalmers tractor, rang-
ing from $370 to $3,880.
Canada Post
Community Mailbox
Locations
Hugh • Nichol, the
director of public works,
met with an on-site rep-
resentative of Canada
Pe't to discuss the new
location of new commu-
nity mailboxes for the
Heritage Heights area.
Canada Post wishes, to
improve mail delivery
convenience of pick up
and customer/employee
safety by placing com-
munity mailboxes at
specific sites :throughout
the area rather than con-
tinue with the larger
central depot at the bot-
tom of Heritage Drive.
Locations have been
agreed . .upon and the
plan is supposed to be
done in August.

Wilf Gamble,
mayor for Huron -
Kinloss, asked whether
the township. ,: has a
replacement: policy with
regards to the removal
of trees by the public
works department.
Hugh Nichol com-
mented that there is no
written policy, but if
public works removes a
tree they will attempt to
plant a new one in its
place dependent on loca-
tion of overhead. hydro
lines, intersection sight-
lines, etc.
Concession .4 paving
One tender quote was
received . for the paving
of Concession 4 from
Highway 21 to the
Huron -Kinloss bound-
ary.
The tender bid from
Lavis Contracting Co.
Ltd. was $1,291,857.
The finding was based
on a $1,000,000 budget.
Hugh Nichol asked
council to accept the
tender. based on his
being able to review the
tender for potential sav-
ings with an -end result
being the budgeted
amount.
Clyde Street in
Lucknow
The installation of the
water main piping and
road servicing is com-
plete; The only out-
standing issue is final
boulevard restoration.
Music in the Fields
parking
The Lucknow
Kinsmen have requested
all village of Lucknow
streets north of
Campbell Street.. be des-
ignated
es-i ated as No Parking
for Aug. 22 the day of
the Music : in the Fields
concert.
Huron -Kinloss l Twp.
staff ted that the
Kinsmen are basically
askingfor a gesture of
courtesy from the resi-
dents of Lucknow to.
ensure any guests' vehi-
cles are parked in drive-
ways/front lawns, etc
and not on village .boule-
yards. This would
ensure emergency serv-
ice vehicles would have
clear ` access to the soc-
cer fields in case of an
emergency situation.
Dog park
consideration
Luiza Small has
enquired about .a fenced
dog park on municipal
property in Ripley. After
some discussion with
Small, the Ripley
Agricultural Society and
municipal staff regard-
ing fencing require-
ments, there may be a
solution to both a dog
park andcattle fencing
area for the Ag Society
(grant opportunity pos-
•
sible). It would be locat-
ed behind the Ripley -
Huron Community
Centre. There may be a
presentation . to council
in the near future.
Algae update
To date the municipal-
ity of Huron -Kinloss
staff have had no algae
discoveries on the beach
that justified the imple-
mentation of an algae
clean-up. Water levels
have been up and the
temperatures have been
cool, which helps pre-
vent the algae from
growing.
Nimrod Gun : Club
A meeting was held
with the Chief Firearms
Officer (CFO) of
Ontario and two mem-
bers of The Nimrod: Gun
Club to ` determine the
municipality's role In
occurrences that .are
reported by residents to.
the township.
