Blue Park receives $5,000 from Hydro One's PowerPlay grant
"I think it's a good idea
because, as adults, we
'think we know what's best
for kids all the time." said
'Ivolan. "If they're here
and see what they like,
well then that's obviously
something they will take
take ownership of."
Wotan and Huron-
Kinlos., council were very
pleased to receive the
funding for the park
because anytime they can
get money to make the
kids of the area happy, it
undoubtedly makes the
parents happy. `.
"We weren't expecting
this $5,000 from. Hydro
One so we are very excit-
ed," said 'Nolan. "I think
it will enhance this park
that much more.
Obviously we have a lot
'of parks and it's expensive
to maintain them, so any-
time we can get a grant
like this, it's a good
thing."
Ron.. Matthews, who
was representing ; Hydro

entation was very appre-
ciative for all the kids and
parents who came out to

It's always a good day
when a public park can
receive any amount of
money towards obtaining
new playground equip-
ment. That's exactly -what
happened to Blue Park as
Hydro One handed over
$5,000, through . its
PowerPlay grant program
to support and enhance
children's sports and
recreation facilities in
Ontario communities.
Mike Fahr, director of
facilities and . recreation
for Huron -Kinloss Twp.
made an application to the
PowerPlay program earli-
er in the year and was hap-
pily surprised when Blue
Park wasiven the money
g y
so some new equipment
can be added to the park.
"We . are always on _ the
look out for dollars to ease
the burden on the taxpay-
er," said Fair. "Whenever
you can bring money ‘into
a park it's a good thing
because it just adds to the
beauty of the neighbour-
hood."
Fair also came up with
innovative idea to try
and spark the imagination
of the many kids that were
on hand by handing out a
bunch of ideas for new
equipment. The kids were
able to look at three differ-
ent concepts for new
equipment and choose
which one they liked best.
"who better to make the
decision of what goes into
the park then the kids
themselves," said Fair.
"So I'm hoping we'll get
as many kids as possible
here today to have. a look."
The mayor of Huron-
Kinloss
uronKihloss Twp., Mitch
Nolan recognized the
importance of making the
local parks better. He was
at the park to show ' his
appreciation for 'the grant
from Hydro . One and to
announce that the munici-
pality was matching the
$5,000 to make it an even
$10,000.
Having a daughter of his
own, Twolan knows the
importance a simple park
can play in the lives of
children, especially when
they are the ones who get
to choose what goes into
the park.
