Wawanosh Balanced Bodies finish up theiryear in style
Wavc,anosh Balanced Bodies finished up
their club, 'To Your Good Health", this
week, ;Fust with meeting six at the Auburn
Hall on July 11 and then at the Lucknow
Horticultural Society Flower Show on -July
15 at the Lucknow United Church.
Meeting six began with a game of soccer
led by youth leaders Ellen and Reba
Jefferson. The members then headed inside
where president Melissa; Higgins asked the
members what their favourite fast food
choices were for roll call.
Leader Eileen George then commented
on the members preferences, which includ-
ed Subway, pizza and McDonalds and how
they could make sure to choose the healthi-
est option on the menu when they have to
choose fast food. She also gave sugges-
tions like keeping healthy snacks on hand
when traveling and working to avoid fast
food cravings.
Since this was the last meeting, the senior
members were ready to do their special
projects Melissa Higgins was first on the
docket, with a fitness relay outside. When
the members returned to the hall, the guest
speakers, Emma Franken and Sandy
Edelsward, who are Huron Community
Food Advisors, were ready to duketheir
presentation.
They covered many of the topics that the
club had learned about at previous meet-
ings, led activities and gave new and inter-
esting facts. One of the most shocking for
members was the difference in sugar con-
tent between juice and pop - orange Crush
has 12 teaspoons of 'sugar in it! They also
advised the members to make food choices
that are low in trans and saturated fats,
sugar and salt. This is great advice for
everyone. An added treat was the been
brownies that Emma had brought for the
club.
Meagan Higgins was next for the senior
projects, and it was a great break to go out-
side and f participate in her exercise class,
"Cardio in the Country". The members
learned a couple of new moves before com-
ing back in for Sophie Jefferson' presenta-
tion. She informed the members -about the
other Canadian Food Guide -the one for
First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples. The+
maindifferences are that - are more .
.;
games and less foods from other ethnic
groups pictured, as well as more foods
which are easy to come by in remote gro-
cery stores. Before the meeting came to a
close, the members enjoyed Ellen and Reba.
Jefferson's movie on having a healthy body
image and enjoyed a snack of apple cheese
silueezes and fruit smoothies.
The members did not have to wait long to
see each .other :again, since their achieve-
ment was held at the Lucknow Flower
Show last Wednesday. Each • member
entered two classes in the youth division
and almost every member was a winner.'
The tea,'' juice and cupcakes were also won-
derful, as were the games played at the
