Many other students had the chance to job shad - sow paramedics dur- ing' the scenario. • Emergency responders, from paramedics to the Kincardine and Tiverton fire departments, weren't briefed on the situation prior to their arrival at the scene to add to the realism of their response. Upon arrival, firefighters had to deal with "walkhig wound- ed," or students suf- tering from smoke inhalation and minor injuries as they cried fpr help. A vehicle was 'ablaze' near the building as it refu- eled, with a victim on the ground 'not breathing and with=- out a pulse'. The main part of the scenario fea- tured • students injured, varying in severity, from a boy without vital signs and covered in sec- ond and third degree burns, to students with debris sticking out of their arms, broken bones, • cuts and bruises, to those who were 'uncon- scious.' Padfield said since their initial mock disaster, the emergency services were able to clear the scene in about half the time, 35 minutes down from one hour.
