Brian and Kathy Knechtel recently
dropped the shackles of being a part of
a national franchise (Sobeys) and are
now going it on their own. They
believe it's of utter importance to sup-
port the local farmer and now the local
consumer will be seeing a variety of
local meat and produce on the grocery
store shelves.
Knechtel Food Market is the new
name and though it's a daunting task
for the new independent grocery store
owners, they know it will be something
that will benefit the village of Lucknow
for years down the road.
"We definitely feel we have a lot
more freedom and a lot more choice
when it comes to giving our consumers
local meat and produce," said Brian
Knechtel. "This all will take time and
will evolve over the next few months.
We also believe we can closely •: align
our products to what the people in
small town rural Ontario are looking
for."
Using local meat has always been a
problem for the Knechtels because as
being part of a national franchise, they
were only allowed to use federally
inspected meat, which is a problem for
local farmers who for the most part are
provincially inspected and don't have
the chance to break into the national
big box stores.
"Most of the beef coming through to
us before was from Alberta, whereas
now, our primary supplier will be from
the meat processor over in Durham,"
said Knechtel.
Continued an pap
they explained what the
concert was all about and
that *complimentary tick-
ets were a way they to sirow
appreciation for the troops.
"I really . appreciate the
Lucknow Kinsmen
Lucknow for coming and
supporting us like this," said
Colonel Hamel. "We are all
part of the same family here
at Borden and it's be
everyone supports the mili-
tary."
Mayor Mitch Twolan of
Huron -Kinloss Twp. was
also on hand at CFB
Bow. t:: He was there to
give his support on behalf of
the municipality because he
recognizes what the troops
do for our country.
