Reunion has profit of $50,000
BY JOAN
CHAMNEY
Special to the
Sentinel
Well, the books
have been audited
and we are happy
to announce a
profit of over
$50,000 from
Lucknow's 150th
Birthday celebra-
tion last summer.
The executive
met last week to
adopt the finan-
cial report. With
donations made
prior to the audit,
we are proud to
announce that the
tally came up to
$50,247,20.
Now the task is
to designate the
funds. Calls for
requests were
made prior to and
immediately fol-
lowing the
reunion. The
executive came
up with criteria
for distribution
and reviewed the
list of 16 requests.
Some more
research will be
done into the
requests, pricing
and logistics and
the final decisions
for allocation will
be made by the
larger Reunion
committee, which
includes the com-
mittee chairs. We
are looking
towards fall for
this to happen.
Ontario's adoption
records are now open.
visit www.ontario.ca/adoptioninfo
Effective June 1, 2009, Ontario's adoption records are open. This means that adopted adults and birth
parents can apply for post -adoption birth information from birth records and adoption orders.
An adopted adult, 18 years of age or older, can now apply for a copy of his or her original birth registration
and adoption order. A birth, parent can receive information from the birth registration and adoption order of
the child that was placed for adoption once that child turns 19 years old.
If you want your identifying information kept private, and if the adoption order was made before
September 1, 2008, adopted adults and birth parents can file a disclosure veto.
To learn more about your right to information and privacy regarding adoption,
visit www.ontario.ca/adoptioninfo or call 1-800-461-2156 (TTY 416-325-3408).
Paid for by the Government of Ontario.

Residents want
giant hogweed
problem solved
From page 1
"We just want
the municipality or
someone to take
care of the prob-
lem," said Doug
Raynard. "We just
want it removed."
Other areas have
been spotted with
giant hogweed
around town as
well.
Here's what to
watch out for:
- Plants grow up
to five metres tall
with an umbrella
of white flowers.
The hollow stems
can be up to 10 cm
in diameter, with
white hairsand
red -purple colour-
ing. The leaves can
spread nearly two.
metres across.
- Avoid the clear
sap, which causes
skin to become
sensitive to sun-
light, causing bad
chemical bums.
- If exposed to
the sap, avoid sun-
light, don't touch
your eyes and
wash thoroughly
with soap and cold
water.
- Seek medical
help if blisters
form.
Contact with
eyes can cause
temporary or per-
manent blindness.
- Sap can also
produce painless
red blotches that
later develop into
purplish or brown-
ish scars that . may
persist for years.
- The seeds can
lie dormant up to
seven years.
- Give hogweed
a lot of space and
keep children and
pets away from it.
- Report it to
your township if
you find it. Call the
municipality of
Huron -Kinloss
offices at 519-395-
3735.
