Vote of support not unanimous
From page 1
The vote of support for net-
work television • was not unani-
mous. Kincardine Mayor Larry
Kraemer and Brockton Mayor
Charlie Bagnato voted against
the motion, arguing that county
council has no say in private
business.
"I understand the emotion but
technology has changed in 50
years," Kraemer said about
local television. •
Bagnato said the crisis in the
auto industry is hurting adver-
tising revenue for television. He
.warned the county could be
opening the. door to a request for
financial support.
"It's just simply a business,
that isn't working out right now.
If they deem fit and their board
decides they have to close down
certain places to stop the bleed-
ing, I don'tsee how politicians
should be getting involved in
that," Bagnato said.

County line
The. Grey Bruce line north of
Scone is closed to traffic for the
next 12 weeks.
The annual detour is part of a
26km reconstruction project
aimed at .creating a north -south
corridor from Clifford to
Tobermory.
This summer Grey and Bruce
counties are rebuilding a section
that runs north from Scone near
Chesley. The detour runs
through Chesley to Tara along
County Road 10, then back on
to the County Line.
Highways chair Ron Oswald
wants the massive reconstruc-
tion 'project completed in this
term of council, and is pressing
to get the Scone intersection on
the books for next year.
"Bruce County wants it done
in 2010 while the present coun-
cil members are. still in place,"
Oswald said. "If we leave it .till
2011 it might never get done
you. know."
Meanwhile the highways
committee is narrowing down
the options for the Scone inter-
section
Engineers are working -king on a
proposed realignment. Slight:.
changes could smooth out the
awkward curve : and signals
could be added, but the option
of a roundabout has been reject-
ed.
"It was a million and a . half
dollars. It's just too big a capital
outlay of money for both noun -
ties for that intersection,"
Oswald said.
EMS conference
EMS *directors in Midwestern
Ontario are working at bringing
a provincial' conference to the
area. tk• r
The 600 -member conference
is usually held in larger cities,
.EMS director Doug Smith told
Bruce county councilors, but the
board suggested a change of
venue.
' Grey, Bruce, Huron and Perth
have banded together to bring
the conference and Lt -
Governor's awards gala to
Collingwood in September
2011: A`
• Hosting the conference is a
chance for local EMS depart-
ments to work together and
showcase the atea..`The provin-
cial association picks up the
cost of the venture, Smith said.
"We just have to supply the
manpower,"7 he: said.
Collingwood is being pro-
posed as the conference site
because of the size of the event,
Smith said,. and the need for
classrooms and space for the
trade show associated with. the
conference.
