BY PAT MUM'
Special to the Sentinel
Bruce County council
endorsed an effort aimed
•
at keeping network televi-
sionin rural markets.
The corporate services
committee gave a vote of
support to a resolution
from North Huron asking
the Canadian Radio and
Television Commission to
make changes that will
provide new revenue and
keep local television
viable.
"The A Channel stations
and TV stations have
made a huge contribution
to the rural and agricultur-
al commimities," said the
letter from North Huron.
-The letter recommends
that cableand satellite
channels pay revenue to
network stations to . keep
them ninning.
"Local television should,
be receiving royalty rev-
enue from cable and satel-
lite channels which re-
broadcast local progrim-
ming originating from
local stations," according
to the North Huron letter:
Warden Bill Goetz
spoke strongly for the
motion, accusing network
television of treating rural
Qntario like second class
citizens.
"We're supporting :the
CBC. big timeand we're
n.ot. getting any coverage
fr0111 them," Goetz said
about the need for local:
sports and news. "We're
here to support, the resi-
