Photo contest unveils winners

With over 275 photo-
graphic submissions rep-
resenting geographic areas
as remote as Namibia,
Africa, New Zealand and
as majestic as the Banff
landscape, the Huron
Camera Club unveiled the
winners in its third annual
Last Light Photo Contestin
memory of founding
member, Sarah Mann. at a
reception at the Goderich
Library on May 2.

was the grand prize winner
as judges selected her
compelling photograph of
a dew -laden lillypad,
taken at a friend's cottage
in Haliburton in the sum-
mer, as the contest's .wince
nine entry.
For Hay, the $250 top
prize from contest sponsor
Goderich Signal -Star, will
be used to purchase new
photography ' equipment,
especially a new camera.
"I , had two cameras
stolen last year and I real-
ly wanted to win this con-
test," she said after being
announced as the winner.
"I love photography and I
was- in South Africa and
took a lot. of photographs.
I am just home visiting
and will be heading back."
The • photographs were
judged on a single -theme
of nature/landscape and a
new category, for photo
enthusiasts under 12
years -of -age, was added.
The , winning photograph
inthe youth category was
a submission by Megan
Pennington of
Whitechurch. Her photo-
graph of an active water-
course was snapped on the
property of a family friend
near Brancroft, Ontario.
With less than a year's
experience in taking pho-
tographs, Megan said it's
thns.to invest in some new
camera equipment and her
$100 cheque from the
Huron Tourism
Association will definitely
help.
The other winners in the
contest included Mark
Nonkes of Namibia and
formerly of Huro s County
who took home the $150
cash prize from the Huron
Tourism Association_ as the
second -place winner. As
runners-up, Ed
Cunningham, Angela
Kaptein and Robert Walsh
were given, prize pack-
ages.
The photographs will be
on display in the Goderich
Library until Friday, May
15 and will be available
for silent auction bids,
with proceeds from the
sale donated to
Community Living
Central Huron.
The photography con-
test . and sale was spon-
sored by the Huron
Camera : Club in memory
of one of its founding
members, Sarah Mann, an
avid photographer who
was killed in a single -care,
accident in July 2006. She
was a lifelong resident of
Lucknow and worked as a
reporter -photographer for
the Goderich Signal -Star.,
Sarah's parents, Steve and
Lynne Mann, and her sis-
ter, Jessica, were on hand
for the presentations and
reception.
Prizes for the event were
sponsored by the Huron
Tourism Association and
Signal -Star.

Winners were unveiled in the Last Light Photo Contest and Sale at a reception at the

Huron Camera Club; Ed . Cunningham, runnerup; Lindsay Hay, overall winner;
Rosemary Foran, Community Living Central Huron and Steve and Jessica Mann.
