The May 7 vote didn't include any discussion this time around, but council spent a special session last month comb- ing over new spending andreserve funds. Formal budget approval that wasexpected at the April 2 meeting got side- lined when councillors asked department heads to give them a clearer picture of proposed new spend- ing. The impact of 10 new staff - three hired with pre -budget approval and seven more coming on stream: by December - is one .area where council- lors wanted more answers. The 2.7 per cent tax rate hike this year is close to the cost of living increase, said Warden Bill Goetz, but he's still worried about the nearly $700,000 impact of 10 new jobs included in the overall budget. The budget was passed so now it's our responsibiiity to make it work." In all, the Bruce county budget will raise $33.5 million through property tax. It involves rebuilding a 26 km stretch of highway from just out- side Chesley north to Highway 21. Bruce and Grey county highways are rebuilding the . heavily -travelled • county line with infra- structure funding. The goal is to create a corridor from Clifford to Tobermory. 211 launch Bruce county residents can get all their questions about community and social services answered at one phone number. 211 was officially launched at the Bruce County council. chambers on May 7.
