Learning to help out around the house
is good and practical for any spouse
A year ago my wife decided to have the veins done in
her legs.
My Wife: "Honey, I want to get my legs stripped."
Me: "YESSS! DADDY SCORES!"
My Wife: "You know I'm referring to. a surgical
procedure, right?
Me: "Of course.'.'
Now, to be honest, I didn't care if she got her legs
stripped or not because, to me, she's a total hottie
either way. At least, I didn't care up until three days
ago when, out of nowhere, she told me that SOME-
ONE. would have to look after the kids while
SHE was recuperating. AND THEN SHE
LOOKED STRAIGHT AT ME! Of course,
being a helpful kind of guy, I was thinking
that she wanted me to start looking for a
babysitter, so I started dialing her mother.
My Wife: "Nice try. The kids will be just fine spend-
ing time with their father.
Me: "What's his number?"
MyWife: "Look, buddy, you might as well accept the
fact that you'll be watching all three of our children for
at least a couple of days while my legs are healing."
Me: "We have THREE now?"
My Wife: "Trust me. If we didn't, I wouldn't be need-
ing. surgery."
Two days before the surgery, my friend Peggy sat me
down and gave me the benefit of her wisdom.
Peggy: Remember that your wife will be some and
you need to CARE for her."
Me: "CAS for heir? How am I going to do that when
I've got three kids running around?"
Peggy: "Mark, when you, tale care of the kids, you
ARE caring for her."
Me: "Huh?"
Peggy: "And when you clean the house for her, you
ARE caring for her."
Me: "Huh?"
Peggy: "And when you get up in the middle of
the night with the baby and feed him his bottle
until four in the morning and hold him until he's
done screaming, you ARE caring for her."
Me: "Whatever."
Peggy: "Trust me, boy. If you .want her
to care for you when she's better, you'd
better care for her now."
Needless to say, once I found my
motivation, I dug in and worked my tail
. y " off. A lot of good came of it, too. Not only
did I impress my wife with my (not so) selfless devotion,
I learned a few things along the way
1. Feeding strawberries and grapes to the baby is just
a really bddidea.
2. It's like, MAN, there is always something to be .
done around this place!
3. I CAN hear the kids in the middle of the night, if I
try.
4. There truly is a limit to how many traces you can eat
Kraft Muter.
5. Changing the baby's wet diaper BORE he poops
is not being impractical.. •
6. At the end of the day, you really CAN be too ted
for. anything.
Get well soon, honey. Please, get well soon.

Trinity United Church celebrating 1
Trinity United Church in Ashfield Township is cel-
ebrating its 140th anniversary on Sunday, May 24
with guest speaker Pastor Gordon Alton of Erb Street
Mennonite Church in Kitchener. Gordon is a former
Ashfield resident.
The life of this church community dates back to
1848, when settlers came in to the Belfast area of
Ashfield Township. The Alton and the Hackett fami-
ly's were among the early pioneers who settled at the
time. The homes originally built in the area were
used for the first services. ` One of the first projects
was to build a log school house where Trinity church
stands today.
In 1868 -1869 the first Hackett's churchwas built,
replacing the school house.
However, before the church . was built there was a
small graveyard beside the log school house.
In 1901 the present church was started and com-
pleted in 1902. The church is 107 years old and the
land on which the church was built was donated by
Alexander Hackett.
On March 28, 1969 a congregational meeting was
voted on that the Hackett's church have its name
changed to Trinity due to an amalgamation of con-.
gregations.
Special music will be played by past members and
after the service everyone will be ; invited over to
Brookside Public School for lunch and. to reminisce
the past.
Grey Bruce Health Unit expanding free dental care
The Grey Bruce Health Unit is expanding free dental
services to children in families unable to cover the cost
of treatment.
The Children in Need of Treatment (C1NOT) program
previously offered dental treatment to families with chil-
dren up to age 14. The Ministry of Health Promotion is
expanding the program to include children up to age 17.
Public Health dental hygienists visit every elementary
school in they Bruce and screen students in every other
grade. High school students are now also able to see a
hygienist by making appointments to receive oral
screening and assessment.
For children not attending high school, parents can
call Public Health for screening and referral services.
To access the CINOT program, Public Health dental
staff must examine the child and identify dktal disease.
For families that qualify, Public Health will cover the
cost of the required dental treatment.
Currently, the mandate of Public Health can only pro-
vide dental health services for children from 0-17 years
old.
