Concentration is
It seems that the Ontario govern-
ment will soon be passing legislation
.that will make it illegal for drivers in
the province, while driving to talk on'
their _phones, text, use their hand-
held music devices, hand-held
GPS systems or ' their smart
phones like BlackBerrys.' People
will, however, be allowed to use
wireless headsets and Bluetooth
devices to talk on the phone.
How am I going to pass my
time on my drive home .if I
can't peruse my iPod while
texting on my phone?
If you couldn't tell, I was
being sarcastic there. 1think
`
it's an excellent idea that people will
actually have to concentrate more on
what's happening
on the road, rather.
than what's happeningop l their
phone.
Hopefully.this new law that will
take effect this fall will reduce the
number of car. accidents. I would
like to see the statistics on car acci-
v
key on the road
dents after a year of this law and
compare it to the previouis year.
There is no doubt it will be signifi-
cantly lower.
I would have to say I'm guilty .of
talking on my phone. and texting
while I have been driving, but I
respect the law -and I do feel it
has a place because I know I've
tended to drift over a little into
the other lane when I have
-been on My phone.
I guess what. I'm trying to
point out is, I don't need to
look thro lh my Pod when
diving, I can just leave
it on _ shuffle. also don't
need to be talking on the'.phone while
I'm driving unless it's an emergency.
For those who don't know calling
911 won't be :covered by the : law.
For me it 'won't be that big of a
deal because it's important. to . keep
your concentration on the road 100
per cent of the time. Better safe .than
sorry.
Why can't people fifldWoJkhefe;?
Dear Editor,
Looking for a job?
Joe Smith started the day early.
Having set his alarm clock (made in
Japan) for 6 a.m.
While his coffeepot (made in
China) was percolating, he shaved
with his electrical razor (made in
Hong Kong).
He put on a dress shirt (made in Sri
Lanka), designer' jeans : (made in
Singapore) and tennis shoes (made in
Korea).
After cooking his breakfast with his
new electrical skillet (made in India)
he sat down with his new calculator
(made in Mexico) to see how much he
could spend today.
After setting his watch (made in
Taiwan) according to his radio (made
in India), he got in his :car (made in
Germany), tilled it with _gasoline from
somewhere in the world and contin-
ued his search for a good paying
North American job.
At the end of yet another discourag-
ing and fruitless day he was checking
his computer (made in Malaysia) to
look for new jobs.
Joe decided to relax for a while, so
he put on his sandals (made in Brazil)
and .poured -himself, a glass of wine
(product of France).
Then Joe turned on his TV (made =:in
Indonesia) and then wondered why he
can't find a good paying job in North
America. -
