Surface water a big problem for residents
of Blair s Grove and people in Ripley area

Huron -Kinloss,
council .had a
large group of
concerned resi-
dents at the April
6 meeting, their
concerns being
surface water in
certain parts of
the municipality.
Murray
Jamieson, speak-
ing for a large
crowd of home-
owners from
Blair's : Grove,
told _council there
is a lot of flood-
ing itt that area of
Point- Clark
because of
drainage.
"I have a sump
pump running all
the time and when
we have a power
outage, likes we
did this morning,
it's even more dif-
ficult," Jamieson
said.
A drainage
ditch, running
north south, .with
a perforated
standpipe at the
south end would
solve the prob-
lem, noted
Jamieson.
He alsro went on
to say that there is
only a sic -inch
drain line drawing
the water from
properties in'` the
Gordon Street and
poor
Hill Street area,
when it should be
a 12 -line. •
"Prop sized
culverts on
Gordon and Hill
Streets would also
alleviate a lot of
the flooding, said
Jamie on. "The
township needs to
examine its
drainage ditch
and correct it."
Drainage
superintendent
Grant Collins said
a municipal drain
could correct the
problem,' but it
would take years
to construct.

inch solid pipe

do and could be
considered main-
tenance work. We.
could also put a
culvert under the
far end of Gordon
to Hill Street,"
said Hugh Nichol.
Although -the
12 -inch perforat-
ed line would
only be an interim
solution, it's
something
Jamieson believes
would work until
something: perma-
nent can be done.
Harr y
Helfenstein was
not impressed
with the ` flooding
on his property at
12 Pine Street.
