Lacers 'peat Thundercats in six and move onto `A' finals
BY GARfT REID

The Lucknow
Lancers took their
'A' championship
semifinal series to
six games agaipst
the Durham
Thundercats and
won it at home in
fme fashion, with a
thrilling 4-3 over-
time win.
The WOAA
Senior tilt that
took place ' Sunday
night at the
Lucknow and
District Sports
Complex saw the
game start slow as
both teams sized
each other up
There was a lot of
play in the neutral
zone with most of
the offensive rush-
es being broken up
there.
It was Durham
who woke up fist
by scoring a pow-
erplay goal with
just seconds left in
the first to take a 1-
0 lead and the
momentum going
into the first inter-
mission.
That momentum
produced another
goal for Durham as
they scored an
early goal in the
second period to
take. a 'solid ' 2-0
lead.
The Lancers,
being down by two
1
goals, picked up
the tempo of their
game by scoring a
powerplay goal of
their own just min-
utes later, keeping
the game close.
. Durham, howev-
er, kept their
offence going and
took back their two
goal lead with an
even strength goal
to close out the
second period.
The third period
started much the
same as the first
period with neither.
team forcing the
. issue on the offen-
sive end.
The puck just got
lost in the neutral
zone for ; the first
half 4 of the ihird
period.
The Thundercats
were content to just
play defensively to
keep their lead, but
this is when the
. Lancers started to
chip away at the
Durham lead,
The Lancers
scored one in the
middle of. the peri-
od to make things
close and put the
pressure on
Durham.
The Lancers
started to pour on
the offence and the
Thundercats did
their best to hold
off the chances the
Lancers were get-
ting late in the
game.
The Lancers
started to play all
out desperate hock-
ey and they were
shooting every-
thing on net. With
just a few minutes
to : go the Lancers
blew the roof off
the arena by scor-
ing the equalizer.
It was all
Lancers after that
as the game went
into overtime. All
of the play was in
the Durham end
and they couldn't
seem to catch up to
the Lancers' offen-
sive rushes:
With about 10
minutes left in
overtime, Mark
Hackett took the
puck and ripped it
in the net to give
the game and the
series to the
Lancers. The place
erupted once again
as the Lancers
were given a stand-
ing ovation by the.
Lancer fans,
"It was a beauty.
It felt awesome -to
score the goal and I
got tackled by the
boys; felt great to
win," said Lancers
forward, Mark
Hackett,
