Seasonal fruits and vegetables better for nutrients and minerals
From page 39
"When you're pur-
chasing fruits, and ' eg-
etables in a seasonal
sense, you also get the
benefits of high nutrients
and minerals. It's more
living food than dead
food," said Morrison.
It's also something
that is convenient. There
will be two harvest days,
one on Tuesday and the
other on Friday, plus the
food is ready picke,
cleaned and ready to go.
The food will be deliv-
ered to such areas as
Goderich on Tuesdays
and Kincardine and
Ripley on Fridays, along
with farm pick up on
both days.
One of the things a
community relies on is
its volunteer work and
that is also something
Grassroots relies on for
its growing season.
In the • spirit of the
CSA model, Grassroots
will be asking its mem-
bers to volunteer at least
two hours throughout the
season to help with
planting, weeding and
harvesting.
"I really think the con-
sumer is getting .tired of
not knowing what goes
into their food. They
want to know how it's
grown," said Morrison.
"CSA is a place where
they know what they are
getting and their_ own
community benefits
from it." It's a win-win
arrangement.
