Chairperson Janice Dunbar said she is excited about getting the new map to residents and tourists in Huron and Perth Counties. "We're encouraging people to eat locally grown foods," she said. "It's great quality, supports local agriculture and protects the environment. This new map will help peo- ple find local food producers.". \. "For producers this map will' help with their farm gates sales and it is also a good way for local buyers to get to know the pry- ducers," said Cathy Bieinan, Perth County Visitors Association general manager, adding the map lets local people know they can go directly to the farm. "People are really interested in locally cts and it will be great for the grownprodu local economy," she added. The map includes where to buy local food such as vegetables, fruits, meat, eggs, baked goods and maple syrup. It also includes seasonal attractions and tour infor- mation. There are about eight producers listed in the West Perth area and sell every- thing from meats to vegetables and fniits to honey. She suggests keeping it your glove box and plan weekday or weekend drives to favourite spots. "People like to get involved with where their 'food comes from. This map helps peo- ple connect directly with the people who produce fresh and local foods.,, Bieman added, "There was : a need -to have this done and the map is a great, way to promote the area. Since people are really taking notice of what they eat and what they are buying, it is important to give people the opportunity to buy local anti• to support the local growers."
