The milking process has become user-friendly over the years
From page 19
After dampening th
parlour floor to make th
post -milking clean up
little easier, the animal
are loaded up in th
holding area. The farme
completes miscellaneou
tasks such as pushing u
feed in .the manger
scraping manure from
the floors and preparing
the cleaning tools - for the
udders.
Once the milking .is
complete the parlour is
cleaned again.
Following the morning
milking and a day's work

Milking twice a day
e has been made easier
e through the years. With

e ing processes, cooling
✓ systems and machinery,
s dairy barns have become
p more user-friendly.
Farmers no longer .
.have to squat down to
attach milkers to . the
teats, as parlours are i
designed to allow work-
ers to stand straight up in
a • pit below the cows to
attach the milkers.
And with the introduc-
tion of automatic take-
off features to milkers,
the farmer doesn't have
to remove the miller b
when it's done.
Along with a conve
nience factor comes pos
sible environmentall
friendly methods o
operating the barn.
Hot water and in-floo
heating . are done us in
propane and solar panels
Storage tanks, which are
solar heated, recycle
water from milk tank and
pipeline washings. There
s enough water recycled
to wash the floors both
morning and night.
In the summer the
solar panels work with
100 per cent efficiency.
The new age of dairy
farming gives a lot of
options to a once back
reaking field of work.
