She always hopes to get a good mix of female and males so that the breed- ing continues and she is always trying to get the finest quality of fibre out of her alpacas. One way to get the best fibre isto rule out any congenital defects and Graham had this to say about it. "One of my younger alpaca females has a congenital defect with the way her teeth are sticking out. They shouldn't be doing that, so when 1 breed her, J'ni always looking for a / male that doesn't have the tooth problem. It hopefully takes that problem right out of the genetic makeup." Graham started to learn the shearing part of raising alpaca, which has given her a better idea of what the good natured animal is all about and it has also saved her some money, since she doesn't have to hire anyone to come and shear for her. "I learned how to shear last year and it only takes about 20 min- utes to a half hour to shear one animal," said Graham. "By doing it. myself you try to econo- mize to get the most bang for your buck.` and the breeding the same. I'm always trying to.. improve the breeding process, to get the best fibre as possible." The biggest event, Graham will showcase some of her Alpacas is the 2009 Alpaca Ontario Spring Show - in Orangeville held on April 17 from 9 a.m. to 6. p.m. It will be a full fleece halter show with a vendors marketplace and. fibre fantasy.
