issue back to the fore
BYCHER''L HEAT
Clinton News -Record Staff
Councillor Bill Siemon is.
willing to gee the restructuring
issue return to county -council
chambers. •
In making a motion at
Huron County's March 11
committee -of -the -whole
meeting, Siemon made a
motion . to bring the issue of
restructuring county council
back to the fore. =
Coun. Bernie MacLellan
(Huron East) says if there are
new issues to be addressed on
the matter, which was
designed to reconfigure the
current 20 -seat council, then
he would be willing to take it
on.
In echoing MacLellan's sen-
timents, Coun. Bill Dowson
(Bluewater) notes there were
a few constituents that had
approached him to express
displeasure at the fact the cost
of having 20 county council-
lors at the table was not debat-
ed during the talks.
Meanwhile, county Chief
Administrative Officer Larry
Adams noted two-thirds of the
COW would have to support
the motion before it could
move forward.
In a recorded vote, a
requested by Dowson, the
motion was defeated when 11
councillors supported the
motion and seven opposed it.
As per .county rules, 12
councillors would have had to
support the resolution.
Those supporting the
request to bring the debate
back to the table were John
Bezaire (Central Huron),
George Robertson . (South
Huron), Dowson, Max
Demaray (Howick), Ben Van
Diepenbeek (Ashfield-
Colborne-Wawanosh),
Siemon, Murray Scott (North
Hilton), MacLellan, Ken Oke
(South Huron), Deb Shewfelt
(Goderich), and Bert Dykstra
(Central Huron).
Those opposed to the
motion were Neil Vincent
(North Huron), Jim Dietrich
(South Huron), Dave Johnston
(Bluewater), Tim Collyer
(Central Huron), Dorothy
Kelly (Morris-Turnberry),
James Fergusson (Bluewater)
and Neil Rintoul (ACW).
Councillors John Grace
(Goderich) and Joe Seili
(Huron East) were absent for
the vote.
