on Kincardine's
Queen Street ended
peacefully with the
suspect taken into
custody.
Kincardine and
Walkerton South
Bruce OPP, working
alongside the
Western Emergency
Response Tactical
Unit, arrested a 24 -
year -old Kincardine
man on assault
related charges
Sunday afternoon.
He.. is currently
being held for a bail
hearing and his
name has not been
released.
Police remained
tight-lipped about
the incident Sunday
night.
"The cooperation
and the patience
shown by the public
. were appreciated,"
said South Bruce
OPP Const. Kevin
Martin.
Police are current-
ly investigating an
"assault" that
occurred at the resi-
dence, but could not
reveal any other
information, Martin
said..
Neighbours with-
in the area said the
incident began after
2 a.m. when a num-
ber of people were
heard yelling near
Harbour Street.
Police arrived at
about 3:30 a.m. at
the second -storey
apartment above the
Brushwood store,
which was sur-
rounded by police.
One neighbour
said two people
were allegedly
stabbed; one in the
head, another in the
hand with either a
knife or beer bottle.
An officer at the
scene said the vic-
tims were in stable
condition.
Police had closed
off much of the
downtown core

New computer system to streamline. hospital
For the._ past few
years, staff at the
Wingham and
Listowel hospitals
have been working
on the implementa-
tion of computer-
based information
systems in the hos-
pital's and the
physicians' offices.
These . systems
are designed to
streamline the
process of docu-
mentation for
health-care
providers and to
enable secure links
between the hospi-
tal and the clinics.
This means that
when • someone
arrives in the emer-
gency department,
the .doctor on -call
can access appro-
priate hea'h h infor-
mation from • the
office chart, and
have the most up-
to-date information
about medications
and recent health
issues.
On March 23,
both hospital sites
will 'go live' with
the Cerner -
Hospital
Information
System, in partner-
ship with the
London area hospi-
tals, which will fur-
ther automate
WINGHAM & DISTRICT
health-care
processes.
Upon arriving at
the hospital. for an
appointment r a
procedure, patients
will ` be registered
into the system..
Tests will be
ordered online and
reported back auto-
matically into the
patients' records.
Information will
flow faster and
more directly as
there are notifica-
tions that will alert
the physician to
look at results as
they come back
into the `online'
chart. •
The hospitals
will be able to con-
sult with doctors in
London and else-
. ,r
where • through
computer links
across the region.
This means that an
X-ray in Listowel
or Wingham could
be accessed 12y a
specialist in
London. As well,
local doctors can
view theirpatients'
results from their
offices.
The Hospital
Information
