Safety assessment to figure things o

"What I heard
was a commitment
from the council,
which is good to
hopefully make
things safe and it's
going to go
through the OPP,"
said Metcalfe. ".

The OPP will
come and do a
safety assessment
and that process
will start in the
next few weeks.
And in my under-
standing what is
deemed appropri-
ate by the OPP
will be accepted
by Huron -Kinloss
council."
Metcalfe also
addre s sed two
other possibilities
if the. crossing
guard wasn't ` an
option. The other
options' were 'a
pedestrian cross-
walk, which would
mean the instaXla-
tion of : lights and
signs that would
be triggered ; by
pedestrians` cross-
ing the road and a
three way stop at
the intersection of
Bob St. and
Willoughby St.,
which • would
ensure the stop-
page of traffic.
A crossing guard
in Metcalfe's
belief would take
away the issue of
LCPS employees
and students hay-
ing t to `fill •in as
crossing guards: • •
This is also ille-
gal as the
Highway Traffic
Act dictates that
only an employee
of the municipality
is glowed legally
to act as a crossing
guard._
"Huron -Kinloss
council had some
good questions,
tut of course were
concerned with
cost and : the chal-
lenge of finding
someone to fill the
position Jof cross-
ing guard," said
Metcalfe.
"Ultimately' they
all agreed that it's
a 's ety • issue and
that they are con-.
ceased } with the
safety of stu
dents."
The current
principal of LCPS,
Mary Martha
Uttley-Shaw, also
commented posi-
tively on the
progress the cross-
ing guard issue has
gotten since last
year.
"I feel .positive
of the fact that
Huron -Kinloss
council is looking
at and is con-
cerned about the
situation. It's good
that the option of a
crossing guard is
still on, the table
and, Fm also very
pleased . about how
much work the
SCC has put into
addressing this
issue."

ble for.
It's something
people will need to
be more . informed
about, but no one is
at fault, it's just
something that
everyone will have
to get used to.
"People need to
be well informed
about this, but it's
not the resident's
fault. It's the first
week and hopeful-
ly over the next
few weeks the con-
fusion subsides. It
will be trial and
and error as we .go
along," said
Cascone.
With everything
going to the Mid -
Huron Landfill,
Lucknow is not the
only area having, to.
get used to the :,.
clear bag policy.
Every munici-
pality that goes to
the site has to use
clear garbage bags
as well.
These areas
include places like
Goderich,
Colborne, Clinton,
who all use the
Mid -Huron site.
People will have
to contact their
local municipality
to find out . what
they can and can't
put in their garbage
bags and like
Cascone said,
hopefully after a
few weeks the con-
fusion will sub
side.
