Need for retirement home so
seniors don't have to leave
From page 1
Lorene Casemore believes there is a
need for a retirement home such as this
with a lot of seniors being forced to
move places like Wingham, Goderich
and Ripley to find similar living quay-
ters.
"The information meeting is for peo-
ple to see blueprints and ask any ques-
tions and provide us with anyideas to
put in the building, said Casemore. "We
have a good number of seniors in the
village .and a lot of them have to go out
of the village to access a retirement
home. It's nice for someone who has
been in Lucknow all their life, to be
able to . stay here when they decide to
move into a retirement residence."
The entire building will be close to
8500 square feet with each of the rooms
being 10x20.
The attendees had a lot of their ques-
tions answered at the meeting from the
.use of the localpharmacy, the possibil-
ity of making the rooms big enough for
two people, having most of the food be
homemade, where mail would be
received, etc.
At the end, of the meeting there was a
sheet for people to sign to show their
support j for the proposed building.
Everyone signed it. The support is
obviously there for a retirement hgme,
only time will tell if all of the details
get ironed out.
The major detail right now is finan-
cial. The Bank of Montreal, who the
Casemores are dealing with, initially
told them they would cover 75 per cent
of the costs. That changed after the
credit crunch and they reduced that to
65 per cent. The number may even go
as low as 50 per cent. Casemore said if
it goes that low then she wouldn't be
able to go forward with the project.
She does, however feel optimistic
that things. will work out because it's
something that Casemore believes is
necessary. for Lucknow.
"The benefits are for the seniors of
the area so that they have a place where
they feel safe and know that someone
will be there 24/7 if they need any-
thing," said Casemore. ``A lot of people
living on their own can becotne lonely
and this way they will always have that
social avenue."

retirement home, they can contact
