Joan and Steve
Chamney were recently
honoured by the Lucknow
-and- District Chamber of
Commerce . with the com-
munity service award.
The Chamneys are this
year's reipients due to the
community work they
have done, particularly in
the past year.
One of the biggest proj-
ects they were a part of last
year was the 2008
Lucknow Reunion. They
acted as co-chairs for the
reunion and they said it
was a breeze with all of the
help they received from
the community throughits
service clubs and volun
Leers, etc.
"We co-chaired the
reunion last year and we
had the good job because
we were in the driver's
seat and everyone else was
pushing the car down
street. It was great," sai
Joan Chamney.
"We couldn't have done
it without all of the volun-
teers. We just steered them
in the right direction and
they did the rest of the
work, it was great," .added
t, r.
Steve Chamney.,
The pair have. also
a big part of the communi-
ty with other things like
minor hockey, baseball,
the fire department and
Joan's fund-raising for the
many things being, done at
the Lucknow United _-
Church.

csition to Red Bay .plans
BY PAT HATPIN
Special to the Sentinel
Dozens of letters and nearly two hours
of delegations tried to convince Bruce
County council to drop some of the
changes in its official plan update.
Opposition is strongest to plans for a
West Road through Red Bay on the penin-
sula.
After ,the meeting, resident Doug Pratt
wasn't -sure the 30. or so residents made
their points with the planning committee.
"I feel that the public hada good chance
to have input today, but David Smith who
is a very stubborn planner is going to per-
sist in trying to get his plan passed the
way he wants it," Pratt said.
Smith is a staff planner who provides
guidance and provincial policy to county
councillors, who then make. the decisions.
Red Bay residents say a county road
through the largely -cottage and resort
community is expensive, unwarranted
and hazardous.
Councillor Milt McIver wants a month
u
to look at :those arguments, and at con-
cerns about rural land designations on the
peninsula and in the Kincardine area.
"I think to Make a quick decision today
would be inappropriate until we assess
some of the suggestions they've brought
forward," said McIver, who represents
Northern Bruce Peninsula.
Planning chair Charlie Bagnato agreed
with the need for more time to review
information that residents brought to the
plug
committee.
"They had very salient points that we
certainly have to listen to. I believe we'll
go back to the drawing board now and do
some homework," Bagnato said.
"From what I saw around the table
today I would think there's a very' good
possibility there will be some changes."
Bruce County councillors will review
the, proposed amendment to the official
plan and the points residents raised, and
bring issue - and West Road - back for a
vote next month.
