Water control on 21
BY PAT HALPIN
Special to the Sentinel
Bruce county is - trying
again to get the province to
build winter control meas-
ures into. its plans f
on Highway 21 along the
lakeshore.
Theprovince stripped
out that part of the project
a move the county says will
ensure Highway 21 keeps
the unwanted title of most -
often closed in the
province.
Ministry of
Transportation correspon-
dence states `the drift -reduc-
ing work will be eliminated
in favour of meeting - with
municipalities to "discuss
potentially innovative and
low cost options" to reduce
snow drifting.
Highway closures are "a
pain" for Kincardine resi-
dents but also affect trav-
ellers .throughout the area;
Kraemer said.
"If the highway is closed
at Kincardine that doesn't
help Saugeen Shores or the
Peninsula," he said.
To deal with . frequent
Highway 21 closures
including one the day after
the highways committee
discussed making another
appeal to the
Transportation Ministry -
Kincardine has created an
emergency route through -
Lakeshore subdivisions to
give Bruce site employees
access to the site when
Highway 21 and County
Road 23 are closed.
IPM donation
'Bruce county's IPM com-
mittee is getting ready to
hand half a million dollars
alth care services.
e money comes from
this fall's Plowing Match
proceeds_ and will go to
hospitals in Bruce, Owen
Sound, - Hanover and
Wmgham, said IPM chair
Jack Riley,
Riley was at Bruce coun-
ty council Thursday to give
the county a cheque for
$25,000 for its contribution
to the Match held in
September near Teeswater.
Arran-Blderslie : got
$5,000 and South Bruce got
$30,000 from the IPM pro-
ceeds in return for their
contributions of meeting
room space and services.-
And being a volunteer
paid off for service clubs
that worked with the IPM.
-Volunteers put in nearly
7,000 hours - of labour,
Riley told Bruce county
councillors, and their serv-
ice clubs are getting
= g g
cheques totirlling $10 dol-
lars an hour for that contri-
bution.
"They always do . work
within the .,community -: the
Legion, Rotary, Lions Club
-- so it will go right back
into the community a"
he said.
