When Lucknow District Fire Department firefight- ers arrived on the scene. they investigated and upon entry to a downstairs apartment they discovered a mattress on fire. The mattress was in a storage area of the apartment. The mattress was removed and the smoke was cleared. Damages were minimal due to the quick response of the ten- ant and firefighters. The apartment had no working smoke alarm and it's the opinion of the fire department that had this fire occurred at night there may have been casualties and a major structure fire. In this case the landlord had installed smoke alarms in every unit of the complex, but the tenants had removed the detectors.' Once again, the fire _ department is reminding people that they must have a working smoke detector on every floor of their apartments and homes.
