After the success of Port Albert Kicks in '86 - the village's 150th anniversary - Rev'n committee members Gwen Doherty and Nancy Corkun said public interest was high for a 175th celebration. In fact, support was so great for the event they said - especially from • cottagers - that the only question for the committee was to make it a day or a weekend. One day was deemed to short a time for celebration, so Rev'n in '11 will take place over the Civic Holiday weekend July 29-31, 2011. "We're giving ourselves more time (to organize) this year," Colt= said. • More than 5,000 people kicked in '86, and the committee is looking to build on that success by combining past and.present. A book was created for the 150th anniversary celebration, document- ing much of the history of Port Albert through photos, family stories and community history. A similar publication is in the works for this year. "The focus is probably going to be \what's gone on since," said Corkum. "We'd like to make it more of a per- sonal book." Doherty said where the other book was history -heavy, this time around personal stories, photographs and histories from families new to Port Albert in the past 25 years are all welcomed. . The festivities start this year, as the first of many fundraising func- tions is set to rock Safford Valley Hall March 28 with the help of the Full Nelsons and Ronnie and the Law. The concert is $10 per person, and a bus service will be available for • people in Lucknow, Dungannon and • of course, Port Albert. "Everyone's invited," said Doherty. The dance is expected to start a long string of events leading up to the 175th anniversary, including raf- fles, dances and other fundraisers. The main event will have the same • mix of entertainment and activities, good food and good times that helped make the 150th a success. The committee hopes to raise $50,000 for the weekend festivities.
