Sleep, not to be taken for granted
No one appreciates sleep until they have kids
/ who won't let them get any. Once you're a parent,
you take every chance you get for 'a full night of
shut eye.
My Wife: "Good night honey! Sweet
dreams!"
Me: "You too, .honey! Sweet dreams!"
I'm swimming in the crystal clear waters of
Bermuda. Thousands of colorful fish dart to
and fro as the sun sparkles through the depths.
In the distance I see a Tiger Shark slowly
approaching. It looks angry and I hear it
growl: "Rrrraaarrrgh." As the distance
between us fades, its warnings grow
louder and more menacing:
"RRRAAARRRGGGZZZ!" I'm climbing
that sway in the wind and moan. I've been scram-
bling through the dense bush for hours and am
about to collapse in exhaustion. The prowling beast
spots me and takes up the pursuit again. It's a
back hoe! An angry back hoe with no muffler.
I must have hurt one of its young...
BBBBRRRRRMMM! It crashes through
the. underbrush. B B B B R-
RRRZZZZZGGGNNNK! It chews up
saplings and spews them at me.. As I run,
branches hit me across my back, legs
and head, slowing me down. The
back hoe lunges behind me in a des-
perate effort to grab me. It misses,
but whips my clothes off, leaving me
to freeze. It raises its : head in triumph
and; laughs as I shiver. "GGGRRRRNNNKKK!"
With one last kick, it leaves me covered in goose -
bumps.` .,
Cold. So darned cold.
Me: "Huh? Honey? Honey! HONEY: You stole
ail the blankets."
My Wife: "zzzzzmph?"
Me: (Sigh) "Never mind. I'm
couch."
The next day comes way too early for. me.
Me: "How was your sleep?"
My Wife: "It was great! I must have dreamt all
night. You can count on a good. night's sleep when
it's full of dreams!"
Me. "I'm : not so sure of that..

desperately for the surface when I suddenly
remember that Tiger Sharks probably don't growl...
Me: "Honey, you're snoring again." .
My Wife: "Hmmm? Oh, sorry."
And back into blissful slumber I slip..
I'm walking through my beautiful new house.
Through the bay window I can see the bay. From
the sub -basement, I hear the contractor finishing up
the trim with the chain saw. Suddenlyhe's coming
up the.. stairs and he's chasing me"ZZZZZR-
RRRAANNNGGGG!" Running! Running! He
backs me into a corner, raises his weapon above his
head-RRRNNNNGGGZZZRRRN_ NNG GG-- and.
kicks me in th e shin. Kick. Kick. Kick.
Me "OW! . Honey, you're rolling all around AND
you're snoring!"
My Wife: "Mmxnm' Srrryyyzzzzz "

In 2008, Huron -Kinloss
mayor Mitch Twolan
said, therewere many
achievements and items to
look forward to i,tr 2009.
"To look k ahead lthink
we'll see the same build-
ing -type construction and
who .knows maybe some
surprises," Twolan said.'
The big thing for 2008
was .the status of the econ-
omy, : not only for the
township but - also the
province.
"There were a lot of
people who lost their
jobs,"said Twolan.
"Agriculture had a lot of
ups and downs this year."
One of the biggest items
on the . agenda for 2008
happened quite recently
with developer David
Brown unveiling his plans
for the town of Ripley,
with the multi-million
dollar `Ripley Square'
idea.
The year 2008 was
another good year for
building permits, which
Twolan said is positive. It
means people are still
moving and building in
the township.
The construction of
Ripley's Lewis Park is
almost finished as well as
the streetsca - ro am .
P P '
Mother nature caused a
halt to the ` Wishing of
those projects, Twolan
\added.
Ripley saw 'its new fire
truck, in 2008.-
"There
008:"There is an item that's
now taken off the books,"
added 'Nolan.
The grant from the
provincial government for
about $450,000 provided
a much boost for
projects in
trtcttire

2008, said TWolan.
A low point of the year
was the Lucknow Y clos-
ing its doors.
Twolan said a big suc-
cess this year in Lucknow
was the newly renovated
Lucknow Library and the
Lucknow Reunion. The
history book also came
out around the same time
as the reunion.
The water supply, land-
fill site and the basic infra-
structure are all in good
shape for the upcoming
year.
The year 2008. also. saw
the International Plowing
Match take place in
Teeswater, which is only a_
few kilometres away.
"It's unbelievable.:.
there were a lot of volun-
teers... hats off to all the
volunteers," said 'Nolan.
There were all kinds of
events in .2008 that
required an immense
amount of volunteers and
they had them.
The Kinsmen Club is
organizing the first out-
doorCCountry Music event
in Lucknow in, 2009.
"Obviously every year
you are going to have your
issues," said Twolan. "It's
part of running a multi-
million dollar organiza-
tion, every municipality
has to deal with them."
In January, Huron -
Kinloss goes through the
capital forecast for the
year ahead.
"This year is going to be
Mayor Mitch 7wolan
interesting deliberating
the budget," said Twolan.
"To see where we are for
new assessment and
where we're at financial-
ly."
Looking back, Tyvolan
said, this year we diad a
successful algae clean=up
program.
He anticipates a similar
growth to last year in
regard to construction. "I
think we're going to be
okay,., but not everyone,"
added Twolan. "We're in
good financial shape." ..
