DRY SPELL BROKEN.
The long dry spell extending over, ,
about six weeks was broken on Thurs-
day last'when, a fine rain fell for sev-i
.eral hours. There was much need of I
it, and a good deal more, as the land
was pretty dry and hard, making 'the
plowing difficult or impossible,. Many
wells are dry, or nearly so, and it
would be a great handicap if the
winter set in now, It was a fine Fall,
for doing work, however, and the roots '
have been harvested in good shape,

A BLIZZARD ON SUNDAY.
Following the rains the latter part
of last week a real old-time snow
storm :struck this district on Sunday,
and while the quantity of snOtv was
not large it was accompanied by every
strong wind, and had all the appear-
anees of winter .settling right in. The
thermometer dropped to only a few
degress above zero. We are hoping
that it will disappear, at we, are in no
need of winter yet; and there is much
ploughing to be done. The frost did
damage to the apples that had pot yet
been picked.
