"Our purpose here is to improve and build up Huron County," said Dykstra, who noted that as a lifelong resident, he is committed to improv- ing infrastructure while caring for the less fortunate and creating new opportunities for growth. Pointing to the county's Official Plan and four pillars of the economy, which are recognized as agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and cultur- al/creative industries, Dykstra said there is much work to be done in 2010. "There are opportunities for growth and change," said Dykstra. "Change is inevitable so we should relish it and accept it." During her speech, Kelly said her goals for the coming term would be similar to Dykstra's and that her availability, energy and conscien- tiousness would be assets as war- den. Pointing to both her experience as a municipal administrator and poli- tician, Kelly said her commitment to efforts like rural economic -develop- ment initiatives would make her a sound candidate. While noting she had "no particular agenda for change," Kelly said she believes in the importance of strate- gic planning meetings and keeping taxes at a reasonable level. am proud to be associated with the County of Huron," said Kelly.
