ment style includes considering all
sides of an issue to find the best pos-
sible solution to a problem or situa-
tion.
"Our purpose here is to improve
and build up Huron County," said
Dykstra, who noted that as a lifelong
resident, he is committed to improv-
ing infrastructure while caring for
the less fortunate and creating new
opportunities for growth.
Pointing to the county's Official
Plan and four pillars of the economy,
which are recognized as agriculture,
tourism, manufacturing and cultur-
al/creative industries, Dykstra said
there is much work to be done in
2010.
"There are opportunities for growth
and change," said Dykstra. "Change
is inevitable so we should relish it
and accept it."
During her speech, Kelly said her
goals for the coming term would be
similar to Dykstra's and that her
availability, energy and conscien-
tiousness would be assets as war-
den.
Pointing to both her experience as
a municipal administrator and poli-
tician, Kelly said her commitment to
efforts like rural economic -develop-
ment initiatives would make her a
sound candidate.
While noting she had "no particular
agenda for change," Kelly said she
believes in the importance of strate-
gic planning meetings and keeping
taxes at a reasonable level.

During his acceptance speech, Dyk-
stra noted that both his council, all
of which was present, and his wife,
Nellie, who was on hand with sever-
al of his extended
family members,
would be support-
ing him in his ef-

In noting there is a lot of experience
in the room, Dykstra said his term
as warden will be one that features
a spirit of cooperation that builds on
the cohesiveness and unified nature
of the council in place.
Dykstra also took time out to pay
kudos to county staff.
"You meet the challenges head on
and overcome them," he said.
Dykstra added that he hopes to
work with Huron -Bruce's MP and
MPP in order to enact positive
change.
"I ant both excited and optimistic,
and I hope and pray I can make a

Black's presentation proved to earn
a warm reception in council chambers
as Larry Adams, the county's Chief
Administrative • Officer, asked Black
to meet with county staff so the two
groups can work together to come up
with ideas on the best course of ac-
tion to address farmers' needs.
Meanwhile, Coun. Deb Shewfelt
(Goderich) praised the OFA and com-
modity groups for joining forces.
Further, he said, agriculture is now
the No. 1 industry in the county and
it has proven vital in keeping the
county buoyant.

Shewfelt went on to suggest send-
ing a motion asking MPP Carol
Mitchell and MP Ben Lobb to sup-
port the RMP requests.
It was a motion that earned the
support of fellow councillors.
"To go as one, I think it's a great
idea," says Coun. Joseph Seili (Hu-
ron East).
County Warden Bert Dykstra
(Central Huron) agreed making a
presentation to the ROMA might aid
the cause while the county CAO also
suggested going one step further to
ask for a special meeting with agri-
culture ministers at the federal and
provincial levels.
County councillors agreed to pass
along a resolution in support of farm
group efforts to the SWEA and to

Coun. Ken Oke ; youth Huron) also
took time out to congratulate com-
