Anticipated costs of sewer options discussed at meeting
From Page 1
be maintained by the municipal-
ity with maintenance costs collected
through a sewer bill, the gravity col-
lection systems would have an addi-
tional cost to homeowners of an esti-
mated $3,000 to $8,000 to hook up to
the system from their homes.
"We can't obtain grants for that
- they are extra costs for the hom-
eowner," said Vader.
Anticipated costs per unit include
$19,900 for the traditional gravity
sewer, $18,100 for modified gravity,
$19,400 for the STEG system and
$18,700 for the STEP (Septic Tank
Effluent Pumping System) system.
The costs for the alternative systems
include easement costs of $1,500 per
lot.
The total capital costs for each sys-
tem are estimated at $6,682,536 for
the traditiorial gravity, $6,095,764
for the modified. gravity, $6,009,925
for STEG and $5,789,600 for STEP.
The total costs include Egmond-
ville's share of upgrades to the Sea -
forth sewage treatment plant and
the Oak Street sewage pumping sta-
tion.
While it's not certain if grants can
be obtained to help fund the project,
the annual cost anticipated if the
project is amortized over 20 years
•
with a 33 per cent grant is $1,033 for
traditional gravity, $940 for modified
gravity, $1,007 for STEG and $917
for STEP.
With a 66 per cent grant, the annu-
al costs are anticipated as $517 for
traditional gravity, $470 for modified
gravity, $504 for STEG and $485 for
STEP.
Without any grants the anticipat-
ed annual . costs are $1,550 for tra-
ditional gravity, $1,410 for modified
gravity, $1,511 for STEG and $1,456
for STEP.
Asked what would happen if no
grants are available, Potter said
council would have to decide but
added that the environmental as-
sessment being completed in antici-
pation of grants would be good for 10
years.

"Some municipalities put it on the
shelf until grants are available," he
said.
Mayor Joe Seili pointed out that
going through the process it has for
the past two years will allow council
to apply for grants.
Seili said Egmondville residents
still have the option of choosing
against a sewer system.
While one man asked why he
should bury a new $15,000 septic
system in favour of a sewer system,
another said Egmondville would be
foolish to stop at this point.
"One of these days, the province
will say this is going to be done and
there won't be any money to do it,"
he said.
Clerk -Administrator Jack
McLachlan said the questions that
will appear. on the ballot were ex-
pected to be decided at Tuesday's
water and sewer committee meet-
ing, where the opinions expressed
at the public meeting would also be
discussed.
He said the ballot is expected to be
mailed out to Egmondville residents
before Christmas.
