New owner takes over Sally's Closet
After being' an avid shopper at Sal-
ly's Closet for years, Seaforth resi-
dent Betty Small decided to buy the
business.
Small, who has a background in
retail and office work, wanted to re-
main in Seaforth during her workday
and so she jumped at the opportuni-
ty to take over the consignment store
from former owner Karen DelVec-
chio, who had run the business since
2004.
Small took over on Dec. 1, but she
wants customers to know that she
won't be changing much about Sal-
ly's Closet.
"They can expect business as usu-
al," she says, adding that just about
the only thing she plans to alter about
the store is to give it a new paint job.
"I'll just be doing some little touches
to make it mine."
Along with the current merchan-
dise that includes clothing, books,
jewelry, paintings and furniture,
Small says she hopes to begin selling
some of her antique collection soon.
Small also says she's counting on
her husband Warren and daughters
Danielle and Jessica to help her run
the business.
She says having been out of work
for a period of time, she knows how
hard it can be for some people to af-
ford new clothing.
"To buy retail clothes, it can be ex-
pensive," Small says. "There has to
be other options."
The store's racks of clothing, which
include jackets, pants, shirts and
gloves, all come from members of the
community.
Small says she will ensure that all
articles of gently -used clothing are
clean and steamed before being sold.
Anyone wanting to bring in clothes
or household items to. Sally's Closet
can only do so by appointment, by
phoning 519-527-0550.
The consignor will _ receive 50 per
cent of the sale price:
Pricing of: each item
will be based on con-
dition, label, age and
demand.
After two months,
the items may be re-
duced to half price
and after three
months, the item
becomes property of
Sally's Closet.
DelVecchio says
she usually had
about 12 appoint-
ments per week with
consignors.
Small says along
with consignment
items, she'll be vis-
iting auctions and
yard sales to add to
her store's merchan-
dise.

To qualify, the team, who are all
members of the 4-11 goat club, won
the Go For The Gold competition for
Huron County teams on July 21.
From there, the team advanced to
regional contest in August, again
coming away with a victory, which al-
lowed them to proceed to the provin-
cial competition at the Royal Winter
Fair in Toronto.
Stark; who's been a 4-H leader for
about seven years, says the team held
several study meetings to get ready
for the contest.
During the competition, Stark says
the team proved they were at the top
of their game.
"They knew their stuff'," Stark says
about the team members, who are
all in their mid -teens. "They were all
very enthusiastic about it."
