Ball player hopattract the attention of
college scouts from southern United States
From Page 12
Windsor says the key to the Nation-
als' success was in playing as a team.
"We had phenomenal pitching and
timely hitting and we scored when
we needed to," he says. "We came
through in the clutch."
Windsor, a 17 -year-old Grade 12
student at Central Huron Secondary
School, went nine for 15 at the plate
with four RBIs during the tourna-
ment.
"He contributed in a large way to
the offensive output of the team all
weekend," says Nationals' head coach
JP Soucie. 'Me collected hit after hit
for us."
During the tournament, it was nev-
er far from Windsor's mind that there
were many scouts from U.S. colleges
watching key players perform.
Windsor was approached by a scout
from a college in Waverly, Iowa, who
asked him about his grades and what
he'd like to study in school
"It's important to establish contact
with a scout, then you can send a
highlight video of yourself and then
go visit the school," Windsor says. "I'd
like to go somewhere south, where it's
warm."
The Nationals will be practicing all
winter in Stratford before the start of
next season.
"I just plan to train hard, keep ac-
tive and get my name out there,"
Windsor says.
Soucie says with enough practice
and discipline, Windsor has a good
shot at advancing his career in base-
ball.
"Windsor has seen steady develop-
ment in his skills since joining the
team this fall and is looking forward
to the Florida spring training trip at
March Break to again try to chase his
dream of playing U.S. college base-
ball," Soucie says. "He
.
still has a large upside, prospect -
wise, due to his latent power in his
swing that has only shown flashes
right now but with work and consis-
tent effort, it will develop."
Windsor began his baseball career
when he was nine playing fastball in
Seaforth. At age 13, he joined a hard-
ball team in Mitchell, playing with
teammates who were 18.
From there, he went on to play for
the `AAA' London Badgers for one
season, before taking a season off
from highly -competitive baseball to
play softball. Last year was his first
with the Nationals.
