"We are getting to a critical point where peo- ple are getting burned out and no relief seems to be coming. We've got no inclination to quit but we're getting to the point where we may have to," she says. Looking at the recent situation in Hensall where its Agricultural Society had to threaten that it would not hold an upcoming fair before it could attract some new directors, Jermyn says she's hoping for new di- rectors in Seaforth without having to get to the same point. "We haven't got there yet but we're hoping we can get new members like Hensall did - they're on a comeback right now," she says. Jermyn says she puts in 18 -hour days during Seaforth's fall fairs and many of the other existing directors do the same. If we had more bodies, it wouldn't be like that," she says. "We got through the fair this year by put- ting our heads down and going to work and not looking up. But, it's a lot of work for a few," adds Hicknell- Feeney. Of a possible 21 direc- tors, the Seaforth Ag- ricultural Society has 10 directors, a. number that is too few to handle all the work the group does each year. Hicknell-Feeney points to the fact that the Agricultural Society owns buildings like the Agriplex and the Roundhouse that must be kept up. At the Ag Society, it's us the volunteers that have to worry about a deficit," she says, adding that the Agriplex is sometimes used by differ- ent organizations for free. More directors are needed who have new ideas and are willing to attend one board meeting a month. Associate directors are also needed to help out with the Agricultural So- ciety's year-round fundraisers - as- sociate directors don't need to attend any meetings. Hicknell-Feeney says that even a list of volunteers who would be will- ing to help out at the fall fair, the toy and craft show and at the Breath of Spring fundraiser would be helpful. "It would be very much helpful if people would be willing to put their names on a list as volunteers to be called to help out for our events. Then, those volunteers might even- tually sit on the board," adds Jer- myn. "We need younger bodies to help with the set-up and take-down - that's heavy work. We're an older crew and we need new ideas," says Hicknell-Feeney.
