.Hildebrand family says goodbye to Spanish
exchange student Marina Aristondo
Grade 12 student Emily Hildebrand is heading over to Spain in February for three months
suburb of Madrid, the capital and
largest city in Spain.
Emily has also taken Spanish
classes at CHSS, but admits that
she will still probably carry around
a Spanish phrasebook for the first
few weeks abroad.
"We feel very blessed to have had
Marina be a part of our family for
the last three months," Ruth says.
"It has been a very positive expe-
rience for our family and we are
thrilled that Emily has a chance to
participate in such a wonderful op-
portunity."

On Monday, the Hildebrand fam-
ily said an emotional farewell to
Marina Aristondo, the 15 -year-old
Spanish exchange student who
had become a like a fifth member
of their family over the past three
months.
Marina arrived in Seaforth on
Aug. 19 from Majadahonda, Spain,
and left Pearson International Air-
port in Toronto on Monday to re-
turn home.
During ,her time here, Marina
settled in to Central Huron Second-
ary School as a Grade 10 student,
as part of the Canadian Education
Exchange Foundation program.
On Feb. 11, Grade 12 student
• Emily Hildebrand will be heading
to Spain to live with Marina's fam-
ily for 84 days.

Both of the young women say
they wanted to join the program
to meet new people and see new
places.
"I thought it would be a good
experience," says Marina, who
studied physical education, music,
math and English at CHSS, but
had learned English at school in
Spain before arriving here.
During her time here, Emily and
her parents Steve and Ruth took
Marina to a number of tourist des-
tinations across Ontario, from Ni-
agara Falls to the Royal Ontario
Museum in Toronto.
They also treated her to some
things that can usually only be ex-
perienced in North America, from
a Thanksgiving dinner and home-
made chocolate chip cookies to a
night at a drive-in movie theatre.
"Her favourite saying was, 'This
is just like in the movies,'" Ruth

Marina, who plans on studying
architecture in university, says she
did notice quite a few differences
between the landscapes of Ontario
and Spain.
"The cold is completely differ-
ent here," she says, almost with
a shudder. "And there are more
mountains in Spain, and there is
more open space here."
Emily says Marina has taught
her a few phrases in Spanish to
prepare her for her stay in Febru-
ary in Majadahonda, which is a
