National Ringette League game draws big crowd
Susan Hundertmark
While there were fewer people in
the stands than last year, close to
320 people attended the national
ringette, game between the Waterloo
Wildfire and the Whitby Wild at the
Seaforth arena on Saturday night.
The fundraiser for Seaforth
Ringette brought a regular season
game to town and the final score was
10-1 for Waterloo.
"It was one of the first regular sea-
son games on the schedule so we're
lucky to have them here," said
Dave Garrick, president of Sea -
forth Ringette.
He said Waterloo was in second
place and Whitby in fifth before the
game began.
"Whitby is missing a few girls with
the flu so I don't think the score is
a true reflection of their capability,"
said Garrick.
Garrick said that along with rais-
ing money for the league, the na-
tional game helps to inspire local
ringette players, letting young girls
know what levels of play they can
achieve.
"I think we gained about -six girls
back from hockey after they saw last
year's game," he said, adding that
the players were 16 and 17-year-
olds.
Seaforth Ringette now has a web-
site up and running with scores
and schedules at eteamz.com/sea-
forthringetteassociation.
