Chaudiere Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais,
France. He was 32 years of age. •
Parke, A.T. - no information
Corporal John Joseph Purcell - was born
on April 25, 1888 in Seaforth, Ontario and
died on September 27, 1918. His next of kin
(on his attestation papers) was Mrs. Bridget
Purcell and was a brakeman by trade. he
enlisted on September 10, 1915 at Stratford,
Ontario. Cpl. Purcell was a member of the
46th Battalion with the Canadian Infantry
(Saskatchewan Regiment). He is buried at
Cagnicourt British Cemetery, Pas de Calais,
France. He was 30 years old.
Charles Manson Reid - was born on March
3, 1889 in Ashfield Twp. Huron County,
Ontario. He was a farmer by trade and his
next -of -king (according to his attestation
papers) was his mother, Mrs. William Reid.
He had two years of former service with the
33rd Battalion Militia and was commis-
sioned on May 1, 1916 at Boisservain,
Manitoba. Death: unknown.
Lance Serjeant John Leslie Reid - was
born on April 30, 1885 in Brussels, Ontario
and died on April 24, 1915. He was the son of
John 11. and Sara E. Waugh Reid, of Seaforth,
Ontario. He had three years former service
with the Cadet Corps and enlisted on
September 13, 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec.
He became a part of the 5th Regiment Royal
Highlanders of Canada. He later became
part of the 13th Battalion of the Canadian
Infantry (Quebec regiment). He has no
known grave and is named on the Menin
Gate, Ypres (leper) Belgium. He was 30
years old.
Lance Corporal Rupert Elwyn Rivers -
was born on May 1, 1892 at Perth, Ontario
and died on June 5, 1916. His next-of-kin
was his mother, Eliza Rivers and was a stu-
dent by trade. He was teaching at Hagersville,
but was studying medicine (1914-1914);
C.O.T.C. In April, 1915, before the end of his
first year, he enlisted in the 35th Battalion,
and went overseas in October. At the end of
May, 1916, he jained the 49th Battalion with
the Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment)
on the Ypres front. Less than a week later he
was reported as missing between June 2 and
5th. On June 3rd, the battalion advanced to
the counter-attack on Sanctuary Wood with
heavy losses, and held the ground gained
through the next day until relieved on June
5th. He has no known grave and his name
can be found on the Menin Gate, Ypres
(leper), Belgium. He was 24 years old.
Sapper Charles Frederick Rolph - was
born on March 18, 1889 at West Ham,
London, England and died on March 28,
1917. He was the son of Charles and Harriet
Kathleen Rolph, of England and was a tele-
phone lineman by trade. He enlisted on
January 17, 1916 at London, Ontario. Sapper
Rolph became a part of 12th Field Company
with the Canadian Engineers. He is buried
at Villers Station Cemetery, Pas de Calais,
France. He was 27 years old.
Pte. Clifford William-Ruffell - was born on
July 28, 1899 at Croydon, England and died
on October 26, 1917. His next of kin (on his
attestation papers) was Mrs. E. Ruffell of
March Cottage, Midhurst, Sussex, England.
He was a farmer by trade and joined
D -Company of the 161st Huron Battalion on
December 23, 1915 at Seaforth, Ontario. He
later joined the 58th Battalion of the
Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario
Regiment): He has no known grave and his
name can be found on the Menin Gate, Ypres
(Ieper), Belgium. He was 18 years old.
Pte. Russell George Scott - was born on
August 14, 1891 at Puckersmith Twp.
Ontario. His next of kin (attestation paper)
was Mrs. R.A. Scott, 33 GarnockAve. Toronto,
Ontario. He was a civil engineer by trade and
was commissioned on December 20, 1915 at
Toronto, Ontario.
Pte. James Spearpoint - was born on May
13, 1893 at Folkestone, England and died on
August 29, 1918. His next of kin was William
Spearpoint (father - Folkestone, England)
and he was a farmer by trade. Pte. Spearpoint
enlisted on November 2, 1914 at Clinton,
Ontario. Later, he joined the 8th Battalion
with the Canadian Infantry (Manitoba
Regiment). He has no known grave and his
name can be found on the Vimy Memorial,
Pas de Calais, France. He was 25 years old.
Pte. Percy Vanner - was born on January
21, 1896 in Paris, France and died on August
8, 1918. He lived at R.R. #1, Seaforth,
Ontario and his next of kin (attestation
papers) was Ellen Vanner (mother), London,
England (SE 19 Berry St.) Pte. Vanner was a
farmer by trade and enlisted on November 4,
1915 at London, Ontario. He later was
moved to the 18th Battalion with the
Canadian Infantry (Western Ontario
Regiment). He was buried at Crucifix Corner
Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux, Somme,
France. He was 22 years old.
Pte. Francis Weiland - was born on May 4,
1890 in Seaforth, Ontario and died on October
15, 1918. He was the son of Henry and Sarah
Weiland of Egmondville, Ontario and was a
printer by trade. He was conscripted under
the Military Services Act on May 1, 1918 at
Toronto, Ontario. He joined the Canadian
Machine Gun Corps. He has no known grave
and his name is located on the Halifax
Memorial, Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was 28
years old.
Pte. George Andrew Weiland - was born
on July 28, 1897 at Seaforth, Ontario and
died on September 27, 1918. He was the son
of Henry and Sarah Weiland of Egmondville,
Ontario who also lost another son, Francis
(Frank) in the Great War. Pte:' George
Weiland was a barber by trade and was con-
scripted under the Military Services Act on
January 8, 1918 at Stratford, Ontario. He
was a part of the 1st Battalion with the
Canadian Infantry • (Western Ontario
Regiment). He has no known grave and his
name is located on the Vimy Memorial, Pas
de Calais, France. He was 21 years old.
Pte. Frederick David Weir - was born on
September 11, 1897 at Milton, North Dakota,
USA and died on March 21, 1917. His next of
kin (attestation paper) was Catherine Weir
(mother) of Seaforth, Ontario. He enlisted on
September 21, 1915 at Toronto, Ontario an
was a student by trade. He later joined the
3rd Company of the Canadian Machine Gun
Corps. He is buried in Aubigny Communal
Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France.‘
He was 19 years old.
West, Pte. Robert Ingersoll West - was
born on March 10, 1894 at Cavelier, North
Dakota, USA and died on August 24, 1918.
He was the son of George and Margaret A.C.
West of Seaforth, Ontario and was a sales-
man by trade. He enlisted on September 7,
1917 at Winnipeg, Manitoba. He later joined
the 78th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry
(Manitoba Regiment). He is buried at Hillside
Cemetery, Somme, France. He was 24 years
old.
